p Mystery of Fait
The Mystery of Faith brings to mind Christ's Paschal Mystery — his death and
resurrection which we shall proclaim until he comes again. This plan of God
to save humankind, which is beyond all human understanding, is revealed and
faithfully carried out by Jesus Christ. This is the Mystery of Faith.
‘The new English translation offers three options for the Mystery of Faith. The
‘second option has been recorded in the album, and is presented here with a
choral arrangement and piano accompaniment. Melodies and chords of the other
two options are provided as well.
MYSTERY OF FAITH 1
We proclaim your Death, 0 Lord,
and profess your Resurrection until you come
again.
MYSTERY OF FAITH 2
When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup,
we proclaim your Death, O Lord, until you
come again.
MYSTERY OF FAITH 3
Save us, Savior of the world,
for by your Cross and Resurrection you have
set us free.
The Mystery of Faith, formerly known
as the Memorial Acclamation, is a
recent element of the Eucharistic
Prayer, an innovation in the Roman
Liturgy, having come into use with the
Second Vatican Council
The new English translation drops the
acclamation that has been popular
since 1973: “Christ has died. Christis
risen. Christ will come again.” That
acclamation is notin the Latin typical
edition. It was composed by the
International Commission on English in
the Liturgy (ICEL).
In the present translation, we use
the form by which we address Christ
directly.
PURPOSES OF THE MYSTERY OF FAITH
1. Helps sustain the assembly's
attention from the end of the
Sanctus to the Great Amen.
2. Manifests the congregation's
active participation in the
Eucharistic Prayer. Sharing
in the Eucharist by virtue of
‘our baptismal priesthood, we
express and affirm our belief that
the whole mystery of the Risen
Christis present and active in the
celebration.
