Course: Analysis of Financial Statements

PROJECT ASSIGNMENT

Financial statements are relevant to the decision of many individuals, including investors,
creditors, consultants, managers, analysts, auditors and employees. Due to this relevance it is
necessary to equip the students with the analytical skills necessary to succeed in business and
professional career. The project assignment has two aims:

 To familiarize the students with the history of Pakistani companies

 To give them opportunity to do meaningful analysis of Pakistani companies

As a part of learning process in Analysis of Financial Statements, every student is assigned two
companies for the purpose of analyzing financial statements. Students will apply all the tools of
comparative analysis, vertical analysis, ratios analysis and trend analysis on the five years
(2015-2019) financial statements of assigned companies. The analysis will be done by using MS
Excel and interpretation of ratio analysis will be prepared in MS Word. Students will be required
to submit both soft and hard copies of their reports. The reports will be prepared with the focus
on following points and will be submitted on mentioned deadline:

Part 1:

 Introduction and history of companies

 Major Products and services offered by companies
 Summary of auditors’ reports to members
Deadline: April 27, 2020

Part 2

 Shareholding pattern
 Five years Financial Statements by using MS excel
 Five years Comparative analysis and vertical analysis of financial statements

Deadline: May 15, 2020

Part 3:Ratio Analysis by using notes to the accounts and other information.

 Liquidity analysis
 Asset utilization and activity analysis
 Capital Structure and solvency analysis
 Profitability Analysis
 Market Value Ratios
 Trend Analysis of five years ratios by using graphical presentation
