Predictive Analytics with Prescriptive and Descriptive Analytics

Analytics solutions give a convenient way of leveraging business data in order to drive

more informed business decisions. Predictive analytics utilizes historical data and puts it into

machine learning models that evaluate key trends and patterns. These models are applied to

current data in order to predict what will happen next. Here, modeling and statistical techniques

are utilized to determine what might happen in the future (Khalifa, & Zabani, 2016). An example

is where businesses need to evaluate when a machine needs servicing. They use various

algorithms and measured machine data in order to estimate the life of critical components. This

information is useful and applicable, but, it does not determine what appropriate action to be

taken as it only informs the user that the machine requires maintenance.
