Divers Uncover A Lost Camera In The Middle Of The Ocean Whose Owner Tells A

Harrowing Tale

1. When we think of all the things we lost over the years, we remember our apartment
keys, that amazing shirt that just disappeared, not to mention all the photos on our
phones that we forgot to upload on a cloud... But what about memories frozen in
time?

2. This story is just about that! An amazing team from the marine ecology department of
a university in Canada went on their regular expedition, but what they found may just
help someone to find their lost treasure!

3. There are some good people still living in this world, and as predicted, they were just
in this team! How did they prove their kindness? How did they become detectives for
some time? Is this lost item the reason? And what does sea starfish have to do with all
of this?

4. Setting the date: May 13, 2014. The team from the marine ecology department at
Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada, decided to conduct a research
dive to study the waters off the coast of Bamfield, near Vancouver Island's west coast.
What they stumbled upon is not something you find regularly laying just near the
various sea stars that you wanted to learn more about.

5. Introducing the founders of the treasure: Simon Fraiser University students Beau
Doherty and Tella Osler were the ones who found an old camera on the ocean floor! It
was all covered up in algae and other aquatic life, so the main question was: Is it
possible that this will work?

6. „One of them picked it up and put it in his pocket and kept counting the starfish,“ said
professor Isabelle Cote in an interview. „When they came up from the dive, he said,
'Look what I found!'

7. Another co-professor who was also on the boat, Siobhan Gray, of Bamfield Marine
Sciences Centre. She was the one that took this algae new home, former camera to the
mainland. The ecosystem that developed a life on a camera was amazing just by itself:
two brittle stars similar to starfish, sea cucumber, and plenty of algae. Did she do it
because of the fauna on the camera or the camera itself?

8. Trying to break it apart once she was on the dry land, she found another amazing
discovery! The memory card from inside of the camera was intact by the ecosystem
and the sea! The whole team decided that, if they can rescue photographs, moments
are frozen in a particular time and space, they will find their rightful owners! So
detective work has begun!

9. As they tried and succeed in their journey to save the photos, they also discovered
plenty of videos, and every multimedia intro was dated two years prior to the
expedition! The date on all of this was July 30, 2012! Was that peculiar date important
for these professors-now-turned-into-detectives?
10. Modern technologies helped those new detectives a lot! They put up some of the
photos on Twitter, used #detectives and their post started to become viral! They got
hundreds of retweets! It was a member of the Coast Guard who helped them with their
quest: he recognized a man in the photo as one who had been saved from a shipwreck!
Is it possible that he recognized himself?

11. An artist from Vancouver is coming to this amazing story, named Paul Burgoyne. He
had lost his boat when it sunk close by that area in 2012! After tracking down the
phone number, he decided to call it for more information. He got in touch with
detective professor Siobhan who saved the photos and videos on her computer. Did
she believe him when he introduced himself?

12. She did! He told a scary story of him traveling to his summer home in British
Columbia on July 20, 2012, when a storm messed up his plans, threw his boat crashing
into rocks, and during the wreck he lost his camera and all the frozen memories in
time along with it! He was probably frightened – a shipwreck right into the rocks and
the storm still going strong!

13. After a hard 6 hours on the sea and hypothermia, he was rescued! He lost a lot more,
not just the camera – but his life was saved. Not to mention all the things lost forever
in the depths of the sea – he couldn't believe that his camera was found! Why was it so
important for him that the camera was rescued? What about the rest of the stuff?

14. Being reunited with his camera was important for Paul because the photos didn’t
depict just any ordinary family reunion. In fact, many of them were taken as his family
buried his deceased mother’s ashes. He also remembered how he almost died himself
on that fateful night.

15. It just goes to show, you never know what you’ll discover in the ocean. If this camera
was any proof, buried treasure does exist; you just have to be in the right place at the
right time to find it!
