Answer the following question systematically, boxed your final answer final answer and should be in 3
decimal places. Erasure is not allowed. Answer in the back side of the answer sheet will be disregarded
a will be considered as scratch.

1. What would be its frequency, period, natural angular frequency and

the equation that will describe the motion of the block
weighing 15 kg is moved 5 cm from its
equilibrium position.

2. The 3-kg target slides freely along the smooth

horizontal guides BC and DE, which are ‘nested’ in
springs that each have a stiffness of k = 9 kN/m. If a 60-g bullet
is fired with a velocity of 900 m/s and embeds into the target,
determine the amplitude and frequency of oscillation of the
target.

3. An oscillator consists of a 15-lbf weight that is connected to a spring of stiffness k =

20lb/in and a viscous damper with a damping constant c = 10lbf-s/ft. a) show that the
oscillator is under - damped, b) determine the logarithmic decrement of two successive
peak displacements, c) what would be the minimum value of damping constant to make
the system over-damped and in critical damping.
