SOM students are expected to have a strong interest in understanding

operations – in either manufacturing or service industries – and the
role operations can play in business strategy and competitive
advantage as well as in eagerness of developing greater
understanding of operations from a strategic perspective.

All students are also expected to be an active participants throughout

the entire class theory and research presentations and thus contribute to the
quality of discussion. Please note however that the frequency (i.e. the
3
quantity) of the interventions in the class is not the key criterion for
effective class participation.

The classroom should be considered as a laboratory in which you can

test your ability to convince your peers of the correctness of your approach
to complex problems and of your ability to achieve the desired results
through the use of that approach.
