TITLE: WHAT IS THE CURRENT VIABILITY FOR THE INSTALLATION OF WIND
POWER PLANTS IN COLOMBIA?

PROBLEM STATEMENT

As we all know, the hydropower covers most of Colombia’s electric power,

covering around 60% of the total amount. The other way of generating electric
energy is the thermal generation, but those ways, currently, are not the only ones
which can generate an amount that could cover our big demand.

Colombia has a lot of biodiversity and resources that other countries don't have,
like powerful winds. Our winds are classified as seven; we have the best-classified
winds in south America, together with the Patagonia region of Chile and Argentina,
also, la Guajira has the perfect conditions for investors interested in wind energy
production.
PROBLEM JUSTIFICATION

Consequently, this project is focused on researching how viable are the wind
parks, based on the need for some isolated regions that our country can´t provide
successfully because of the extreme condition or economic problems. We all know
that remote areas of Colombia have a lot of resources, and in some parts, winds
fluctuate fast. Furthermore, we are going to research the social and economic
issues that occurred in past projects, like the Jepirachi wind park located in La
Guajira.

PROBLEM QUESTION WHAT IS THE CURRENT VIABILITY FOR THE

INSTALLATION OF WIND POWER PLANTS IN COLOMBIA?
OBJECTIVES
1. GENERAL: research from data bases the viability of installation of wind
parks in some regions of Colombia

2. SPECIFICS:
 Look towards Colombia´s wind map speed, the Beaufort scale and
conclude.
 Investigate the social and economic problems of having a wind park
in certain areas of Colombia.
