Reflection paper must reflect your insights on the following:

a. What is man? Knowing what man is, how should he be treated?

 What is your impression about the whole concept of the show? Why do you think that
way?
b. The innate dignity of man.
 Cite specific instances (you may summarize the scene/s or you may even cite specific
lines) where Truman is being “utilized”. Comment on these instances.
Hints: Adoption by the corporation. Ads. Relationships. Privacy. Entertainment.
Profit. Ratings.
 The corporation that owns the Truman show is making a lot of money out of the
show. What are your thoughts on this?
 Is Cristof, the creator and director of the show, the only one to blame for the blatant
disregard of Truman’s humanity? Who else do you think are at fault? Why do you say
so?
 The TV show gives hope and joy to millions. Someone will say that Truman should
have just stayed on the show. What is your response to this? Why do you say that?
 What are your thoughts about reality shows? How about the Pinoy Big Brother show?
Do you think just because they wanted to be on the show and they gave explicit
permission, the show is humanizing?
 One of the last lines in the show, when the transmission from the show was cut, was
“Let’s see what else is on. Where’s the TV guide?” This statement is quite loaded. Do
you think the audience really sees Truman as a person?
 What can you conclude from the scene where Truman was able to get through the
storm? The raising of the sails as well as the triumphant background music says
something about the human spirit. What is it?
2. Please include other insights or realizations that you gained on account of having seen the

3. Note: The organization of your insights is up to you. In other words, you are not required to
answer the guide questions in a chronological manner. You are also not expected to just
write the answers to the questions one after the other. Rather, if you find that some questions
are related, you are free to combine them.
