Essential Question:   What are the statistics in bullying in high school?

Three Points to Prove: #1:  Lack of education can contribute to bullying.
#2:  Boys are more likely to physically bully.
#3:  The student whose parents had a higher level of education are less
likely to be bullied.

Point that this Source Proves:   #  2

Excerpts (These should provide insight into the Point to Prove):

“lower educational level, possesion of a job of inferior quality have been revealed to be
important factors in the exertion of bullying behaviours.”

“For a male student, the likelihood of being involved in violent behaviours was detected to be
nearly 8.4 times higher when compared with a female student”

“ The student whose parents had a lower level of education carries a higher potential of being a
victim of bullying.”

Analysis (How does this source support the Point to Prove?):

In this study of a high school Bursa, Turkey, it was found that people with a lack or lower
education level may be more likely to become a bully.“lower educational level, possesion of a
job of inferior quality have been revealed to be important factors in the exertion of bullying
behaviours” this could be because of lower self-esteem in one’s self that leads to bullying of
others to make themselves feel better.

Although most students were detected to be involved in at least one form of bullying as an
aggressors or victims at one time of their lives. “For a male student, the likelihood of being
involved in violent behaviours was detected to be nearly 8.4 times higher when compared with a
female student” This often leads to more boys being bullied in school. “1998 and 2002, about
one in three students reported that they had been a victim of regular bullying. A higher
percentage of boys (36%) reported being bullied than girls (32%)”

“The student whose parents had a lower level of education carries a higher potential of
being a victim of bullying.” Interestingly, “A study demonstrated that physical and verbal
victimization decreases with age, Minimal degree of physical victimization was observed among
students whose mothers were university graduates.”
