In spite of the challenging times, the Dutch offshore sector has proven to be able to cope with the entrepreneurship and innovation. Over the last 50 years an extensive network of pipelines, platforms and subsea installations has been developed inthe North Sea to produce oil and gas from offshore fields. As more and more small fields become empty, decommissioning and the dismantling of platforms that are no longer used are becoming increasingly important and available for the next step. Next to permanent removal in on efficient and effective ‘way, innovations are under development to enable reuse of existing infrastructure for oil and gas for future use in energy storage and power balancing offshore. Old infrastructure can be used for energy or CO, storage [depleted fields), energy conversion with Power to Gas 0 Gas to Wire (platforms) or energy transport and storage (Hydrogen). At the same time a new infrastructure is being developed fo produce renewable energy, mostly from offshore wind. Also the development of marine energy technologies (wave, tidal) become important for the energy supply of the future, Nonetheless, cil and gas will continue to play an important role in the globol energy mix for decades to come. The Dutch suppliers are leaders in the field of clean and safe conventional energy production and are way chead of its international competitors. Although the coming years will be challenging years for our industry, they will be full of opportunities both in the field of conventional energy and sustainable energy. Wit the above innovative developments, we have laid the foundation for a stonger international compeitve position, from which we can benefit in the further strengthening of the market ult conditions through chain cooperation, strong The Dutch business community shows how it uses the years of offshore experience in the Netherlands and abroad. OCEANS CHALLENGE- The offshore and maritime industry has gone through quite a transition the past few years. Sustainability has gained a prominent place on the agenda of the industry and new innovations are climbing the charts. ‘Changing’ the mindset towards a sustainable future in the well run maritime and offshore industry at a global market is an immense task. A tosk that can only be done with a clear strotegy ond a strong network. When the Our Oceans Challenge Cycle 2 challenges were defined - noise mitigation, waste management, sustainable legacy, big data and ocean resources - we couldn't have guessed the broad variety of ideas we were to receive. The network expanded, rapidly in a few months and it was exaclly the sort of chain of partners withthe ability to fuel and adopt innovation. Within 8 months after announcing the second cycle of Our ‘Oceans Challenge, the finals were held at the Maritiem Museum in Rotterdam. More than 150 ideas were posted at the online platform, discussed and improved amongst the collaborating ‘organizations and the public. From all those ideas, fifteen were selected to proceed to the live pitches. From designing biodegradable electronics to combining renewable energy sources and from a market place for industrial waste to bubbling for plastics, he pitches all inspired to move towards a more sustainable way of working. ‘Wave parasite’ wos the jury's favorite ond the ‘Groot Bubble Barrier the public's choice. With the indusity going through rough times we took some time to get ready for the third cycle. We are now! We are looking forward to discuss with you the sustainable challenge the offshore and maritime industry faces. The industy faces 4n interesting future and needs a great dose of innovation ‘and new working methods. Qur Oceans Challenge is planning to start the third cyele first half of 2019 and con only do so with a great network. Through open innovation participants can share and coniribute creative solutions and connect the industry with knowledge centers, entrepreneurs ‘and other sustainably initiatives. Our goal is to gather as many ideas and enrichments as possible. The most promising ideas will be furher developed by the industry into real, tangible business ready solutions that will contribute to our sustainability goals. ‘Are you interested in joining an ever growing network of industry, knowledge centers and entrepreneurs and wiling 10 contribute fo a sustainable offshore and maritime industry for near zero marginal cos? Nexstep’s founding fathers are the oil and gas producing operators in the Netherlands {represented by NOGEPA] and EBN, as representative for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate. Nexstep, os the member organization of all Dutch oil and 905 producing operators, serves as the first point of contact for a broad set of stakeholders in the Netherlands and abroad. Nexstep coordinates, facilitates and accelerates the Dutch agenda for re-use and decommissioning of oil and 40 infrastructure with the cim to have zero safety incidents, Create minimum environmental impact and realize cost reductions through efficiency. In the Netherlands, an extensive infrastructure has been built up in the past decades for the production and transport of cil and gas. The production sites are approaching the end of their economic life, which means they become available for other possible uses and if not, they will be decommissioned. Nexstep wonts to serve as an inclusive and collaborative umbrella organization that coordinates, facilitates and seeks dialogue on the re-use and decommissioning agenda for cil ond gos infrastructure in the Netherlands. Nexstey membership-based organization, which aims to stimulate ‘and facilitate collaboration amongst key stakeholders. It will develop and drive « dedicated innovation agenda; promote cffective regulation and encourage knowledge transfer both nationally and internationally ‘As the public face of -use and decommissioning of oil and 90s infrastructure in the Netherlands, Nexstep will inform ‘and engage wih stakeholders and the general public about its work. twill promote transparency about re-use and decommissioning including its scope in the Netherlands ‘amongst others by publishing the yearly Re-use and Decommissioning Report. A dedicated innovation agenda will identify new challenges and promote technology development where its needed. In 2019, focus will be on developing @ new salvage standard, a pilot producing offshore hydrogen in ‘cooperation with TNO and exploring the route towards rigless abandonment. Nexstep will also encourage industry collaboration, sharing of lessons learned and engagement with international partner organizations involved in the coordination of re-use and decommissioning of oil and gas infrastructure More information at www.nexstep.nl WIND & WATER WORKS All around the world countries are in transition working to ensure that their energy supply comes from cleaner, more sustainable sources. So is the Netherlands. During this transition, we discovered the enormous potential of offshore wind energy. Wind & Water Works is established to demonstrate how Duich companies are now applying their offshore expertise developed over many years to offshore wind energy. Ruud de Bruijne, project leader offshore wind at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl|: “Wind & Water ‘Works enables the Dutch Government and the Dutch business sector to collectively export the successful Dutch approach to and expertise in offshore wind energy.” The key to success? A complete, integrated approach. Dutch public and private parties have teamed up to design, develop, build and maintain top-quality wind forms. Together they proved wind to be a powerful solution, because they realized there is more to building high-quality wind farms at se0 than just manufacturing wind turbines. It requires technical innovation across the whole supply chain, Such os careful preparation of the seabed, the ability 1o transport large foundations and wind turbines to an offshore site and to install them under challenging condtions. But also the laying of power cables and other offshore grid-connection and electicity-ransmission infrastructure. And the adjustment of the onshore high voltage grid to transport the electricity yield to load centres on land. Effective operations ond maintenance procedures are required to ensure that every wind farm hos along, sustainable future. It requires dedicated teamwork, collaboration, and innovation across the board The Dutch have centuries of experience in working offshore: not only did we turn water into land, we also created the Delia Works and are leaders in he offshore oil and gas industry. The world’s best dredging companies, shipbuilders, steel and equipment constructors have their origins in the Netherlands, as do other porte in the supply chain - soil investigators, technical consultant, engineers and more. For ‘over a century these Dutch companies have been working ogether on offshore projects across the world. Driving down the cost of offshore wind energy iso key goal of the Dutch nation’s Energy Agenda. The first wo fenders for projects in the current offshore wind programme - both in the Borssele Wind Farm Zone (BWFZ] - each resulted in record low prices for offshore wind development at the time. And on top of that Hollandse Kust Zuid was the first offshore wind farm to win « non-subsidised contract in March 2018. Dutch Economic Affairs and Climate Minister Eric Wiebes said: “Thanks to drastically lower costs, offshore wind farms. are now being constructed without subsidy. This allows us to keep the energy transition affordable. Innovation and compeition are making sustainable energy cheaper and cheaper, and much faster than expected too.” The Dutch government is a driving force in this chain by de-risking investments in offshore wind farms. The government allocates specific areas for wind farm development, takes care of project permits and conducts all the necessary site investigations. Tennel, the state transmission system operator, takes care of the grid connection and transmission infrastructure. This makes Dutch offshore wind projects attractive to investors, whilst being proven to minimize the overall costs to the Dutch economy. The Government and industry agree that futher cost reductions are possible. Nonetheless, zero-subsidy development isnot necessarily he same as long-term cost effective sustainable power production ond supply. To achieve this, innovations are needed in almost every sphere of the sector, including wind turbine technology, foundation design, installation procedures, operations and maintenance, cand decommissioning. Pieter van Qord, chairman of IRO, said: “Dutch offshore industry has the knowledge, experience and equipment to fake their place ot the top ofthe international offshore windsector.” “We are keen to share our experience and knowledge with others across the world. With countries that want to expand their horizons. Counties hat want to secure a long term sustainable supply of electricity. Counties that want to benefit from the positive economic impact of offshore wind energy, just as we have. With these countries, we would like toteam up and explore the best ways for them to develop offshore wind energy.” Wind & Water Works is an initiative of branch organizations NWEA, HWE, IRO, TKI-WoZ, NMT and the Ministries of Economic Affairs, Foreign Affairs and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency. Currently, production and preparations are made to start decommissioning. This includes removal of existing infrastructure for oil and gas production. ‘Atthe same time « new infrastructure is being developed to produce renewable energy, mosily rom offshore wind. This includes an offshore electric grid and transformer stations. Innovations are under development to enable reuse of existing infrastructure for oil and gas for future use in energy storage and power balancing offshore. Old infrastruc can be used for energy or CO, storage (depleted fields), energy conversion with Power to Gas or Gas to Wiee (platforms) or energy transport and storage (Hydrogen). The North Sea Energy program started in May 2017 to accelerate the energy transition on the North Seo. This program is supported by Top Sector Energy and has now 25 participants from industry, branch organizations, research insftuions and societal organizations [NGOs]. The program is led by the independent technology organization TNO with a value of 1 milion euro per year. There is a strong collaboration with the Nexstep organization, which is ls «at cost reduction in decommissioning and opportunities for reuse of infrastructure in the Netherlands. ‘Why system integration in the North Sea? The cost of decommissioning ofthe oil and gas infrastructure inthe Netherlands has been esiimated to be 7 billion euro ‘More than half (55%) is connected tothe offshore facilities, pipelines and wells. Building an offshore electricity grid for wind farms requires billions of investments from industy and North Sea =. Energy aus society, Linking offshore sectors and, in particular, smartly sharing their physical or logistic infrastructure may lead to cost reductions at system level, and will contribute to a smooth integration of intermittent renewable energy into the system, for example in the form of hydrogen, produced by clectrolysers in a process called Power to Gas. Platform electrification The energy of production platforms is now generated with gas turbines and diesel engines, which produce CO,, nitrogen ‘oxide and sulfur oxides. By using the sustainably generated energy from the wind turbines at sea, these emissions con be reduced offshore to a zero point and energy is saved at sysiem level. An integrated offshore electric grid is also «a prerequisite for future functions such as CO, storage or Hydrogen production. Gas to wire From olmost empty gas fields you can also generate electricity directly on the platforms, this is called Gas to Wire. Gas to Wire can possibly be combined with CO, copture and storage (CCS) such that offshore electricity is ‘extracted’ from natural gas with a very low CO, footprint. The electricity a can be transported to land via the unused capacity of the offshore grid, so that it can be used more efficiently, Power to Gas Power to Gos offers the possibilty to conver (surplus) wind energy into an energy carrier thot can be transported via a 90s network. The advantage is that gas can be transported in large volumes more easily and cos eficienly by using the current gas network. Storage is also possible and the produced gas, preferably hydrogen, can be used as a feedstock for, for example, the chemical industry. Energy storage The offshore infrastructure (pipelines, gas fields, platforms) can be used for the conversion and storage of energy produced by the wind forms. This makes it possible o feed large vanities of variable sustainable sources such as wind into the energy system without requiring very heavy grid adaptotions The added value of these options will be determined in terms cof economy, reduction of CO, emissions and acceleration of the energy transition, For example, he preliminary estimate is that more than one milion tons of CO, emissions can be saved annually if offshore gas and offshore wind energy connec their infrastructure and exchange electricity. ‘A new consortium of Total, NAM, TAQA, Neptune, EBN, Nexstep ond TNO has initiated a study for an offshore pilot for hydrogen production on a MW scale, to demonstrate: feasibility ofthe power to gas concept. ‘More information on the North Sea Energy Program at wwnw.north-sea-energy.cu or René Pelers, rene pelers@Ino nl m STUDENTS BEAT MARITIME EXPERTS IN OFFSHORE EXPERIENCE The ‘Saltcatcher’ of four primary school students from Rotterdam was proclaimed the best idea for creating sustainable energy at sea by the visitors of the ‘Offshore Experience’ in the Maritiem ‘Museum Rotterdam in 2018. These students beat students from TU Delit and technical engineers from the maritime industry. Each year, the successful exhibition Offshore Experience is given ‘new energy’ with eight new innovative ideas for the future of energy from the sea. Offshore Experience, the search for energy The Offshore Experience, which opened its doors end of 2016, dedicated to the offshore sector, to be housed at the Maritiem Museum for seven years. The exhibition was the first ever exhibition in the Netherlands realized with the financial support and knowledge of 56 pariners from the offshore and maritime industries Imagine yourself on a platform at In the Offshore Experience people of all ages embark on « challenging search at sea for energy. Wearing safety vests and helmets, they will experience what itis like to be on an offshore platform in the middle of he sea and 3 km below sea level. A 360° film projection stimulates the senses. Ships come and go and helicopters land. Models of the newest and most advanced offshore ships demonstrate their capabilities. Offshore employees offer glimpse into their lives at seo, and simulated presentations, enable visitors to experience for themselves how drillers, crane drivers, wind turbine specialists and helicopter pilots perform their demanding tosks on the open sea, in «constant battle against the elements. A lift takes visitors down fo « mysterious undersea world; from just below the surface to a depth of 3 km. The adventure ends in the future, as vistors vote for the bes! idea for producing sustainable energy at sea With the presentation of the eight ideas for the future of energy, the Marifiem Museum offers companies a platform to show the public at large how the maritime industry is working towards o sustainable future. (Phctogroph: Alsoas) by Poul Schaap, PAS Publicties Just as in the offshore installation market, Dutch contractors have also acquired a leading role in the emerging market for the decomm all the wi \gness to invest in special heavy- joning and re-use of offshore oil and gas structures. Above ft vessels that have pushed boundaries ever further has earned them global respect. And there is still no end in sight. Over the post few years, Allseas hos attracted most attention to itself with its innovative, single-liftinstallaion/ decommissioning and pipelay vessel Pioneering Spirit, the largest ofits kind in the world. This attention reached a milestone in 2017 when a new world lifing record ‘was established in the British sector of the North Sea during the removal of the 24,000-tonne topside from the Brent Delta platform operated by Shell UK. This project is part of « major decommissioning programme that also includes removing a jacket and three other topsides from the Brent field, ranging in weight from 16,000 to 30,000 tonnes. For this year, the decommissioning of the Brent Bravo topside is scheduled. Using the Pioneering Spirit, topsides weighing up to 48,000 tonnes can be removed or installed at sea. The same applies to jackets weighing up fo 20,000 tonnes, in a single section. Also for this vessel, Schiedam-based Huisman has now built a large crane with a lifing capacity of 5,000 tonnes. This crane is to be mounted on the aftership, and will be suitable for deployment in decommissioning work. Later this year, the Pioneering Spirit will be carrying out a decommissioning project on behalf of Aker BP in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. This project involves removing the topside ‘and bridge from the Valhall QP living quarters platform, 13 at sea. Already on the drawing board at Allseas is yet another new design for an even larger offshore vessel than the Pioneering Spirit In the future, this vessel will be able to remove topsides from the sea, with a maximum weight of 72,000 tonnes. This gigantic catamaran will be christoned Amazing Grace. New crane vessels Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) are also shifting their boundaries with the deployment of a brand-new semi-submersible crane vessel that is soon to be handed over. The vessel in question is the Sleipnir, that following her launch will be the largest semi-submersible crane vessol in the world. The vessel is equipped with two cranes built by Huisman, each with a lifting capacity of 10,000 tonnes. In tandem, they are capable of liting loads up to @ maximum of 20,000 tonnes. Even during the construction period, HMC was able to acquire installation and decommissioning contracts for the Sleipnir. Expectations suggest that the crane vessel will be deployed later this year in the Danish sector of the North Sea, as patt of the Tyra Development Project on behalf of Total. In the framework of that project, as well as «@ range of installation work, HMC will also be required to remove 17,000 tonnes of platform parts and bridges, from the sea. Over the past few years, HMC has already removed around 250,000 tonnes of steel from the sea, and expects to remove « further 180,000 tonnes over the coming years. As compared with the last twenty years, this represents massive growth. Alongside the Sleipni, HMC can also deploy its semi-submersible crane vessels Thiolf cand Bolder, and the monohull crane vessel Aegit Other projects due to be underiaken involve the removal of four platforms from the sea in the Norwegian Ekolisk field, os part of the Ekofisk 1 Cessation Plan on behalf of ConocoPhillips Skandinavia. HMC has also been contracted over the coming period to remove seven old gas production platforms from five gas fields off the coast of Nova Scotia, as part of the Sable Island Offshore Energy Project for ExxonMobil. Together with AF Offshore Decom, two new decommissioning contracts were olso signed. The first involves the engineering, preparation, removal and disposal of the Brae Bravo platform operated by Marathon Oil, and the second is for the removal of the topside from the Dunlin Alpha platform for Fairfield. Both projects will be carried out in the British sector of the North Sea. The Dunlin Alpha project involves a total of around 20,000 tonnes Moreover, HMC has developed and tested a new method that will further push the boundaries of lifing operations. The method in question is the QUAD lifing method that enables HMC to integrally install or remove oversized topsides and jackets. the semi-submersible crane vessels Thialf and Balder. The new method was tested Sleipnir can also employ the some method, in combination with either the Thialf or Bolder. Other players Other Dutch contractors active in the decommissioning market include Seaway Heavy Lifiing (SHL) and Royal Boskalis, For this work, SHL operates the monohull crane vessels Seaway Strashnov and Seaway Yudin. Although in 2018 both vessels mainly carried out installation work in the wind energy sector, in September 2018, the Seaway Yudin was responsible for removing the twenty year-old ‘One of the semi-sumersible heavy-lit crane / accomodation vessels of 005 International. (Photograph: OOS Inieretioncl) With its Seaway Yudin, SHL recently removed a gas production platiorm from the Markham fd. (Photograph: PAS Publicatos) topside and jacket from the ST-1 gas production platform operated by Spirit Energy, from the Markham field in the British sector of the North Sea, in two single lifts. For a umber of years, Boskalis has also been heavily involved in removing satellite platforms from the sea, in particular in the British sector of the North Sea. The company usually deploys Taklf floating sheerlegs for this work, but recently 100k delivery of the Bokalifi 1. This monohull crane vessel is equipped with a Huisman crane with a lifing capacity of 3,000 tonnes ‘A recent arrival to the market isthe jack-up vessel Apollo operated by GeoSea, built according to « design by GustoMSC. This brand-new vessel was responsible for removing the @1 Halfweg production platform from the Dutch sector of the North Sea at the end of 2018. Another newcomer keen to play an important role in the decommissioning market is QOS International. On behalf of this Dutch contractor, three semi-submersible heavy- lift crane/ accommodation vessels are currently under construction in China. The first, he OOS Serooskerke, is due to be handed over in the second quarter of this, year. Number two, the identical OOS Walcheren, will follow in the first quarter of 2020. Both vessels will be equipped with two 4400-ionne cranes to be fabricated by Huisman. The third vessel, that will be christened OOS, Zeelandia, will be equipped with two cranes each with lifting capacity of 12,500 tonnes, making this one of the largest semi-submersible crane vessels in the world, alongside the Sleipnir. Another porty closely involved in the decommissioning ‘and re-use market is the national platform Nexstep, established in 2016 in the Netherlands. The platform is a joint initiative by EBN (the Dutch State) and the Dutch oil ‘and gas industry, represented by NOGEPA. The aim of the platform is to promote safety during decommissioning projects, to reduce decommissioning costs by around 30 percent and to deliver a solid contribution to ensuring the removal and re-use of oil and gas structures from the sea, in the Netherlands, in the most environmentally friendly manner possible = The work's largest semisubmersile crane vestel Seine operating fer HMC wil ls play an important role inthe decemmisioning market, our oil and gas project videos a \E/ Vanodre.com/ouanegas: Marine ingen In oss than thrae hours, the Pioneering Spirit installed the topside ofthe Johan Sverdrup driling platform, SPECIAL PROJECTS THANKS TO DUTCH OFFSHORE CONTRACTORS Dutch offshore contractors once again succeeded last year in completing a series of remarkable large-scale offshore installation projects. The work ranged from major pipeline projects through to the installation of jackets and topsides of platforms. No matter how complex or extensive, with their special installation vessels, the worldwide-operating Dutch offshore contractors are able to come up with a suitable solution for any project. Below is a summary of the most spectacular projects completed. Although investments in the oil and gas sector remained at a low level in 2018, in line with the past few years, a series of eye-catching projects did have to be carried out. These included the laying of two 930 kilometre-long, {gas export pipelines across the Black Sea for Gazprom’s TurkStream project. Via these 32-inch diameter pipelines, each with a transport capacity of 15.75 billion cubic metres of gas per year, Russian gas is to be pumped into Europe. Allseas made a start on the laying work way back in May 2017. The first TurkStream pipeline was completed on 30 April 2018, and the project wos successfully concluded in November 2018. The Audacia was responsible for the pipelay work in the shallow sections, and the Pioneering Spirit in the deepwater sections of the Black Sea. The maximum water depth was a staggering 2,200 metres. On average, the Pioneering Spirit nonetheless succeeded in laying 4.3 kilometres of pipeline a day, with peaks on certain days of 5.6 kilometres. On Sunday 26 August 2018, the vessel in fact set a new record by laying 6.3 kilometres of pipeline in deep water in a single day. The performance was proof for Allseas that this single-lifinstallation/ decommissioning vessel is olso ideally suited for pipelaying work. Elsewhere, on 5 September 2018, Allseas started laying ‘wo export gas pipelines for the North Stream 2 project con behalf of Gazprom, in the Gulf of Finland. The two pipelines in question will run for 1,200 kilometres right «across the Baltic, rom Russia to Northern Germany. The first vessel to be deployed for this work was the pipelayer Solitaire. She was joined in October by the Audacia, «and in December the Pioneering Spirit. The pipelayers from Allseas ore assisted inthis ambitious project by the company’s own offshore support vessels Oceanic and Fortitude. As part ofthe Ballic Connector project, in the summer of 2018, Allsoas also installed « new 81 kilometre- long gas pipeline across the Gulf of Finland between Estonia and Finland. In the framework ofthe Leviathan gas project, Allseas also won the contract in 2018 to lay 500 lilometres of pipeline in the Mediterranean Sea Johan Sverdrup project Areal milestone was the installation ofthe platform sections of the Johan Sverdrup complex operated by Equinor in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. The main players inthis project were Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) and Allseas. HMC set fo work with the Thialf, the world's largest semi-submersible crane vessel, while Allseas deployed its already mentioned Pioneering Spirit. The offshore installation work was started in July 2017 with the installation by the Thialf of the 26,000- tonne jacket for the riser platform. In April 2018, the Thialf was also responsible for the installation of the thee topsides of the riser platform, with a total weight of 23,000 tonnes, and of the 21,300-tonne jacket for the diiling platform. In Seplember, the Pioneering Spirit swung into action to install the 22,000-tonne topside of the drilling platform. This job was in fact completed in less than three hours. I was the first platform installation job by the Pioneering Spirit, and the heaviest offshore single-lit installation executed, to date. The Thialf went on to install the linking bridge between the two platforms. But that was not the end of the project for he Thialf. In September, in quick succession, the jackets for the processing platform cand the uflty and living quarters platform also had to be installed. These jackets weighed 17,700 tonnes and 7,600 tonnes respectively. In 2019, the Pioneering Spirit will once again see action to install the 28,000-tonne topside of the processing platform and the 19,000-tonne topside for the living quarters platform. Finally, the Thialf The topsides ofthe Johan Sverdrup riser platform have been installed by the Thal. (Photograph: Stotil/Bo B. All in oll, the project will represent a prime example of installation work by these renowned Dutch offshore contractors. Other projects ‘Another major project in which HMC’s Thialf played a leading role off the coast of Norway was the Martin Linge project for Equinor. In a deployment lasting less than five days, the crane vessel successfully installed four large modules on two jackets at the Marin Linge complex. These included a 9,580-tonne ulility module, 2 10,850-tonne process module, @ 2,170-tonne living quarters module and a flare module. In the Gulf of Mexico, HMC was responsible for the deep water tow out and installation of Shell's Appomattox floating production platform, while for 2019, HMC has been contracted to install the jacket and topside of the ry Leviothan gas production platform in the Mediterranean Sea. As part of this project, the Thialf will fist position the jacket. Later in the year, the brand-new semi-submersible crane vessel Sleipnir will be deployed to instal the topside. Equipped with two 10,000-tonne Huisman cranes, the Sleipnir will be the largest semi-submersible crane vessel of her type, in the world. Afier completing the instalation work in the Mediterranean, the Sleipnir will transfer to the Danish sector of the North Sea where she will be responsible for the transport and installation of a new production and living quarters platform for the Tyra Future project. The two large monohull crane vessels, operated by Seaway Heavy lifting, the Seaway Yudin and the Seaway Strashnov, were for their part heavily involved in installation work for the offshore wind energy sector in 2018, Others Royal Boskalis, for years an active player in the offshore industry, announced in Moy 2018 that the well-known ‘names of is subsidiary companies Dockwise, VBMS and Fairmount were set to disappear. Instead, their activities are to be integrated in the service portfolio for the offshore energy markel under a single brand name, Boskalis. In October, Boskalis announced that it has been awarded the contract for the Tyra Development Subsea Installation Phase Il by Total E&P Denmark. This extensive contract involves subsea engineering, procurement, production and installation activities. The aim of redeveloping the Tyra field is to extend its operational service life by 25 years. the ‘vast majority of the work will be corried out by the large diving support vessel Boka Atlantis. The US cil and gas company Anadarko has chosen a consortium consisting of Van Oord and Technip FMC as its preferred tenderer for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the offshore subsea system for its Mozambique LNG project. Throughout 2018, the Dutch contractors Boskalis, Van Oord and Tideway [now DEME Offshore] with their flexible falpipe vessels were involved in a series of rock installation projects for the oil ‘and gas industry and the offshore wind energy sector a LEADING ROLE IN THE HEAVY TRANSPORT MARKET by Poul Schaap, PAS Publicaties Just as in the previous year 2018, market leader Dockwise once again succeede completing a series of ground-breaking heavy transport projects. Parent company Royal Boskalis Westminster, that took over Dockwise in 2013, decided in April 2018 to continue the activities of Dockwise under the brand name Boskalis. There was also news from the project cargo segment, where Dutch companies carried out a series of remarkable projects. Major players in this segment were BigLift Shipping and Jumbo Shipping. The name change from Dockwise to Boskalis also resulted in a rechristening of the flagship of the company, and also the largest heavy transport vessel in the world, the Dockwise Vanguard, to the Boka Vanguard. Once again in 2018, this remarkable vessel was responsible for 4 series of transport operations. In July, she set a new world record by transporting the 90,000-tonne semi- submersible oil production vessel P-67 from Gingdoo in China to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The P-67 was due to be deployed for the production, storage and transhipment of il from the Brazilian Lula field. Another impressive project successfully completed at the beginning of his year involved the transport of the massive topside of Equinor's Johan Sverdrup processing platform.
