-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The idea of a healthy life of a mariner, often do not go hand in hand with his routine life on board, owing to the long hours of work, high stress levels, sumptuous food and "no exercise" may put the body and also mind at a test. There is now focused attention on enhancing the quality of physical and cognitive wellbeing amidst the mariner community. However this spirit is yet to find its way up in the focus area, where the lives of the families that remain ashore are in concern. It is often presumed that mariner families are enabled with all the required facilities while a integral member and "good salary of the mariner" is way at the sea. This is also true in the case of organizations like the Arm forces, where dedicated efforts are pooled in for the comfortable stay of the families of those who are out there fighting for the country. In the merchant navy, the individuals may make adequate arrangements necessary for their loved ones before they transcend into the blue. There still is a major void which their absence cannot cater to. The situations which require tending to a sick member, any accident or logistic requirement may be taken care by other family members, friends or good Samaritans. The only tangent which is always ignored is the "physical and emotional wellbeing". This is extremely important for these families with deep underlying emotional needs which emerge due to absence of the mariner and they show a brave heart and courage to not show to the world at large. The physical wellbeing must be a priority, as it plays a pivotal role in the upkeep of the emotional wellbeing. It not only keeps you fit but also makes you feel better with an elevated mood. This is however, easier said than done, especially when there is no cognitive motivation which can lead you to do so. An unbalanced emotional state can gravely effect your decision making power render you ill while also impacting other associated members of the family along with a severe repercussions on the day to day life. A heeling hand is the best cure here, but also important are awareness, outreach and resources. There must be enough knowledge out there to be able to understand the requirement and then a reliable source where it can be found. In this space which is yet to be explored to its full potential, one such initiative with a dynamic spirit has emerged from the duo of "Neera Wellness". Neera wellness a CSR initiative of Nevoxel-AMLS is committed to ensuring wellness amongst the mariners and their families while also securing sustainability of the same. The goal is to work long term on how to incorporate wellness at sea as a necessary model to be implemented as a healthy habit and way of life.
