A  Player  Guide  from  Blue  Herring  Games

The   Harbormaster   Card   introduces   a
new   way   to   earn   victory   points   in
Catan,   similar   to   the   bonuses
provided   by   the   ‘Longest   Road’   and
‘Largest  Army’.

Inclusion  of  the  Harbormaster  Card  in
any   Catan   game   is   strongly
recommended  as  it  encourages  towns
and   cities   to   be   built   along   the
coastline.   It   also   provides   an
alternative  race  for  victory  points  and
new  strategies  for  winning.

Rules  for  the  Harbormaster  Card

Settlements  and  Cities  built  at  harbors  (and  only  at  harbors)  provide  ‘harbor  points’:

• A  Settlement  built  at  a  harbor  gives  1  harbor  point
• A  City  built  at  a  harbor  gives  2  harbor  points
• The  first  player  to  obtain  3  harbor  points  receives  the  ‘Harbormaster  Card’
• If   another   player   subsequently   collects   more   harbor   points   than   the   current
Harbormaster,  they  take  the  Harbormaster  card.
• The  Harbormaster  card  is  worth  2  victory  points  at  the  end  of  the  game.
NOTE:  The  number  of  victory  points  to  win  the  game  increases  by  1  if  the  Harbormaster  Card  is  in
play.  For  a  standard  game  of  Catan,  this  will  be  the  first  player  to  reach  11  or  more  victory  points.
