When I walked through the capital

Photo taken from “El Tiempo”

If you are from these mountains, I ask you: have you ever seen or heard about the old Bogota?

that one with its trams, its men correctly dressed in dark and the austere facade of the Granada

hotel next to the Santander park, with the fountains of the Plaza de Bolívar and the old balcony

houses that if you have not seen them, you should walk through all “La Candelaría”.

And if you like to detail in the twentieth century the center of Bogota had that European

landscape ideal that many give it a cartoonish touch and no, it is not in mockery mode but

dignity. Yes, yes very nice, now, how about if we focus in the present; for most people who live

or have lived or visited Bogota, has a certain relationship of love and hate either for their public
transport, the amount of trade and well the lack of care in its streets but if you want to know

Bogota, you should look at the natural wonderful and architecture that we talked about previously

and that still persists.

The magic of the seventh, if you are going, do not forget your camera and of course your

happiness, there you will find in each block happiness, dance and art; The “Chicha” in “El Chorro

de Quevedo”, have you visited it? Surely, there you will find some history, crafts and the Creole

drink with some “parceros”. What a delight! ; Monserrate, place for excellence, if you want to go,

you must take your willpower because the pleasure is in walking up, there you will find the

church, the Sanctuary of Thousands of Pilgrims and restaurants too.

A little of Art: “El Museo de Botero” It does not only contain works by the famous Colombian

muralists, painters and sculptors but it bequeathed us part of its great artistic heritage to the city

of Bogotá. Pictures of Renoir, Monet, Picasso or Miró; sculptures by Dalí or Degas; and, of

course, paintings and sculptures by Fernando Botero. A cultural site where you can admire works

of the main artistic trends of the last centuries. If you know him or have heard of him, he is a

famous artist from Colombia, if you want to go, do not forget to know a little about this artist.

Now, what about the “night life”:

Chia:

Chia is a municipality that is on the outskirts of Bogotá, on the weekends it is attended by many

Bogotanians who go to have lunch and eat a good dessert, they also stay at night to enjoy their

discos and restaurants, so if you are a person who loves to enjoy the night you must visit this

place, would you like to visit it? I recommend it very much, you can come with family or friends,

now, following a bit with the theme of the night I suggest that you come to Calera, on this hilly

road to the east of the city, you can find great discos and restaurants, you can also do night riding

or just have a drink and contemplate the city from the viewpoints, I know you like fun, people

who have recommended this place have enjoyed it, now tell me if you would like it.

Usaquen:

This sector to the northeast of the city is famous for its restaurants, bars and pubs. In the middle

of colonial architecture, you can have different options for partying and good places to share a

beer and good music.

Gallerias:

An excellent option to have a good time and listen to all kind of music like: mariachis and

vallenato, and also if you are one of those who likes rumba, well Bogotá has several places to

enjoy good local music.

Bogotá is a wonderful place, that if you come, you must discover; every corner, every cobble,

every stone that has an attach to the past, walking through the Muisca people, the “Embera

Katio”, “Embera Chamí” etc.., to the most “exclusive” areas of capitalism, an unmissable history,

a mixed town, where the rolls were the most formal, decent and respectful people of Colombia, I

dare to say, their exquisite dress, a marvel; a place for the “costeño”, the “caleño”, the “paisa”

and even abroad, in short, a place for everyone.

Among other things, some people are in Bogotá out of necessity more than anything else, but that

does not take away from its cultural range so varied that it offers everyone, and this city is a

wonder.
