Profile
An enthusiastic, versatile, caring professional, who enjoys working with children. Looking to start a
rewarding career as a child support worker which will fully utilise my previous experience and skills.

Skills
Communication
• Developed excellent verbal and written communication skills as a teacher, interacting with
young children and their parents
• Able to engage with large groups of children, from all backgrounds, at an appropriate level,
encouraging their quest for knowledge and developing their self confidence
• My previous experience, teaching within a school and volunteering at the women and
children’s refuge, required the ability to gain the trust of parents who were able to confide in
me about issues that affected their child
• Currently work closely with children visiting the library, to understand their needs and
interests before recommending suitable books

Negotiation
• Throughout my career I have had an excellent rapport with children. Through positive
negotiation, they have been encouraged to achieve their potential
• Persuaded children within the refuge to complete their homework by breaking up their work
into reasonable time slots and offering mini treats on completion
• As a parent of two children I have fine-tuned my negotiation skills. Every day I need to listen,
respect, talk and occasionally compromise

Teamwork
• Worked with teaching staff to plan and deliver the curriculum to years 4 and 5 to the highest
professional standards
• Currently work as part of a small team within the library to encourage children to use our
services in a stimulating environment

Time Management
• Time management skills were essential as a teacher, to develop and deliver teaching plans
covering every subject, to a tight deadline
• Working part-time as an Information Assistant means that I need to prioritise my workload
every morning so that I complete essential tasks on time

Organisation
• Within the refuge, participated in a rota of volunteers, to organise trips for children and their
mothers to leisure centres, the cinema and libraries. Liaised closely with the Senior Support
Worker to keep her informed of activities and any issues of concern
• Ran the Under 9’s girls and boys football teams at the Turner School. Organised a series of
mini tournaments with other local schools, ensuring that the children enjoyed their
experience and supported each other regardless of ability
