Hi Monica!

a. How are you? I'm writing this from Scotland! I'm here on holiday with my parents and
my brother. We're having a great time!
b. On Monday, we arrived in Glasgow and we spent the day going to art galleries. It was
great! There were lots of paintings and sculptures. There was even a painting by my
favourite artist, Salvador Dalí.
c. Well, I like visiting galleries, but my brother Tim can't stand looking at art! So, on the
second day, we went to the city centre. While we were sightseeing, I bought a necklace
and a new bag. Tim didn't buy anything.
d. We stayed in Glasgow two nights, and on Wednesday we went to Edinburgh, the
capital of Scotland. Edinburgh and Glasgow are very different. Glasgow is bigger than
Edinburgh and it's more lively. But Edinburgh has older buildings than Glasgow and
it's the most beautiful city.
e. The next day, we went to Loch Ness. We had a really good day there. We took lots of
photos, but we didn't see the monster!
f. Yesterday we drove to the mountains and we saw Ben Nevis (it's the tallest mountain
in Britain!).

City Profile: Seattle


Situated on the Pacific coast of the USA, Seattle is the home of popular television series
such as Frasier and Grey's Anatomy, and it is also famous for the movie Sleepless in Seattle.
Many world-famous businesses have started in the city, including Starbuck's Coffee.
The environment is really important in Seattle. In public transport, the city uses vehicles
that make very little pollution. And everyone must recycle their rubbish – because it's the
law!
The local government has introduced many other ways, too, that people can help the
environment. For example, if you want to install solar panels on your house, the government
will give you some money to help pay for them.
There are a lot of tall buildings in Seattle – the most famous is The Space Needle. But the
city is really known for its green spaces. There are almost a hundred parks with cycle lanes
everywhere. Even though there is a lot of rain in Seattle, people like cycling or walking in the
parks, around the beautiful Discovery Park or the surrounding woods. In fact, the city is
also known as 'The Emerald City'.
