Psalm 9

I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;
    I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.

I will be glad and rejoice in you;
    I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

My enemies turn back;
    they stumble and perish before you.

For you have upheld my right and my cause,
    sitting enthroned as the righteous judge.

You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked;
    you have blotted out their name for ever and ever.

Endless ruin has overtaken my enemies,
    you have uprooted their cities;
    even the memory of them has perished.

The Lord reigns forever;
    he has established his throne for judgment.

He rules the world in righteousness
    and judges the peoples with equity.

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
    a stronghold in times of trouble.
10
Those who know your name trust in you,
    for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.
11
Sing the praises of the Lord, enthroned in Zion;
    proclaim among the nations what he has done.

1 Thessalonians 1

1 Paul, Silas and Timothy,

To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you.

We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. 3 We remember before
our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance
inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to
you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how
we lived among you for your sake. 6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the

message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. 7 And so you became a
model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in
Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore, we do not need
to say anything about it, 9 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how
you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from
heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.

“But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly
life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold
tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many
witnesses. 13 And I charge you before God, who gives life to all, and before Christ Jesus, who gave a good
testimony before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you obey this command without wavering. Then no one can find
fault with you from now until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. 15 For, at just the right time Christ will
be revealed from heaven by the blessed and only almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all
lords. 16 He alone can never die, and he lives in light so brilliant that no human can approach him. No
human eye has ever seen him, nor ever will. All honor and power to him forever! Amen.”
