A Rose for Emily

The story started with her funeral, symbolizing how it haunts the curiosity of the people towards
her life. With this, Emily Grieson was regarded as a fallen monument due to her hidden life. She serves
as a tradition as her family established to be well respected in that the residents of Jefferson. No one
was able to see how she lived when she was still alive but the old man.

Marxism is evident during this part of the story where there was an old man-servant that reveals
the presence of social hierarchy. Moreover, through the latter portion of the work of Faulkner, it
revealed the presence of racism as another social issue seen using the Marxist lens. As stated in the text:

“No negro woman should appear on streets without an apron-remitted her taxes.”
