1. Prepositions of Time - at, on and in


- at for the time of day: E.g. at 5 o’clock, at 6:15, at night, at dinner time, at sunset, at dawn etc.
It can also be used at an age: E.g. at sixteen/at the age of sixteen
We can also use at: at the weekend/at weekends/at Christmas/at Easter, at the moment/at
present/at the same time
- on for days and dates: E.g. on 25 April 2020, on Christmas day, on my birthday
- in for longer periods (months, years, seasons) E.g. in May, in 2019, in the middle ages, in the
summer, in the 19th century, in the 1980’s etc. We also use in: in the past/present/future; in a
moment/in two days time etc.
We say: in the morning/afternoon/evening. But we say: on Sunday morning/afternoon/evening.
Remember that we don’t use on, in and at before last/next/this/every
