Exercise and the Body Systems


 Our bodies have developed special
systems.
 They carry out life-preserving activities.
 All your body systems work together.
SKELETAL SYSTEM
 Consists of your bones and joints
 Joints allow movement
MUSCULAR SYSTEM
 Consists of muscles
 Muscles are the red meat around bones
 They pull on bones and make them
move
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
 Consists of the blood, heart and blood
vessels
 Blood carries food and oxygen round the
body and carries waste away
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
 Consists of the lungs and breathing tube
 It’s how you take in oxygen and get rid
of carbon dioxide
NERVOUS SYSTEM
 Consists of the brain, spinal cord and a
network of nerves
 It controls and co-ordinates movement
HORMONAL SYSTEM
 Consists of a set of glands which make
hormones
 These chemicals help to control
activities going on in your body
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
 Consists of the stomach and gut
 It is where the food you eat gets broken
down
 You use digested food as fuel
EXCRETORY SYSTEM
 Consists of the lungs, kidneys and
intestines
 They get rid of or excrete the waste
from your body
