LINE-TO-LINE FAULT :

Consider a line-to-line (LL) fault between phases b and c on an unloaded Y connected generator
as shown in Figure

Due to fault Ic = –Ib, Vc = Vb Because of unloaded generator Ia = 0 With Vc = Vb, the

symmetrical components of voltage are

EE2212 –PSA- LINE TO LINE FAULT -8/4/2020

From this, we have

Ia0 = 0

Ia1 = (aIb – a2Ib) = (a– a2) Ib;

Ia2 = (a2Ib – aIb) = (a2 – a) Ib

Ia1 = – Ia2

Since Ia0 = 0 and Z0 is finite, Va0 = 0

Since Va1 = Va2 and Ia1 = –Ia2, positive- and negative-sequence networks must be connected in
parallel. Since Ia0 = 0, zero-sequence network will not be present. Accordingly, the connection
diagram for line-to-line fault is shown in Figure
