Do you think that individuals should be allowed to take doses of methadone home? Why or why
not?
Individuals should be allowed to take doses of methadone at home. This is because in the current
setting of the coronavirus pandemic, requiring patients with opioid use disorder to go to
treatment programs to get their daily dose that is necessary for fighting their addiction could
result in two adverse consequences. Individuals could continue attending the treatment centers
for their medication even with their Covid-19 symptoms, possibly exposing other individuals I
the program and the medical staff providing their care. Also, if the patients self administer, there
will no be cases of missed medication, then opioid withdrawal, thus increased risk for recurrent
drug use and overdose.
