The Busol Watershed

The Busol Watershed was declared a watershed through Proclamation No. 15 dated 27 April
1922 by then Governor General Leonard Wood. The Proclamation was issued primarily for the purpose
of conserving and protecting water and timber, the protection of the water supply being of primary
importance. The Busol Forest Reservation has a total area of 337 hectares, a larger portion of which
(224 hectares) is located within the jurisdiction of the municipality of La Trinidad, Benguet, the rest
located within Baguio City. It is a major recharge area of the water sources for Baguio and La Trinidad
and even of its adjacent and surrounding municipalities.

Issue: Through the years, the surrounding areas of busol watershed has been the subject of
conflict in terms of private ownership and of ancestral domain.
