Numerical Weather and Climate Modeling: Beginnings, Now,

and Vision of the Future

Belgrade, September 10, 2018

The motivation of the Conference is the 45th anniversary of the advanced

atmospheric numerical modeling in Belgrade, starting with the limited area primitive
equations dynamical core written in 1973. This code already had elements that have
been ahead of its time, and remained cutting edge until present.
The Conference is to recall these beginnings, ideas then put forth and
implemented, and the early international impact of the Belgrade code. It is next to
summarize the crucial steps arrived at later, elsewhere and in Belgrade, including
today’s plans for moving ahead by various world modeling centers. Both advances
resulting from numerical features of various approaches, and those motivated by
changing architectures of computing systems, are to be discussed. Views on vision of
the future that is to satisfy requirements of realistic simulation of both the input of very
small-scale turbulence features, as well as projections of climate change ahead of us,
global and regional, are welcome and are the main focus of the conference.

Abstracts or extended abstracts in English language, up to a maximum of six

pages, including figures, tables or diagrams, are invited to be submitted to the
Secretariat of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts by August 10. Abstracts and
registration form should be submitted electronically to sasaconf@sanu.ac.rs. Authors
are kindly asked to download and follow the format given in the posted abstract
template. Abstract template as well as the registration form are available at:
