1. Solve the following word problems and write the answer. Do not forget
to show the process.
a. Jenny has 63 grapes to put in a fruit salad but she only wants to add 40%
of them to the bowl. How many grapes does she use for the fruit salad?

b. Michael made 4 dozen chocolate chip cookies. He is bringing 75% of


them to school for a party. How many cookies does he bring to school?

c. Jan wants a bunch of balloons for her birthday party. She chooses 10 red,
12 blue, 8 green and 9 yellow balloons. Her mom says she can only have
60% of them. Jan doesn't care what colors she has. How many balloons
does she end up with?

d. Mindy is making a flower arrangement. She has a dozen of each flower


type: rose, tulip, daisy and carnation. Mindy uses 80% of the roses, 50%
of the tulips, 65% of the daisies and only 10% of the carnations. How
many flowers does she use for the arrangement?

e. Georgie has a bushel basket of apples to sell at her fruit stand. 1 out of
every 5 can not be sold because they are not ripe yet. What percent of her
apples are not ripe?

f. Sean spelled 13 out of 20 words correctly on his spelling test. Write his
test score as a percent.

g. Chloe's teacher gave her a science test with 30 questions on it. She scored
80% on the test. How many questions did she answer incorrectly?

h. The students at Mill Middle School held a class election. Alyssa and
Megan were the only two candidates running for class president. Megan
received 45 votes and Alyssa received 65 votes. What percent of the votes
did Alyssa receive?

2. Use the measures of central tendency and answer the questions.


a. Clayton plays basketball on a team. He has played three games so far. In
the first game, he scored 10 points. In the second game, he scored 14
points. In the third game, he scored 6 points. What is Clayton's average
points per game?

b. Jean loves to go bird watching. One day, she saw 7 birds. The next day,
she saw 11 birds. The next day, she saw no birds. What is the average
number of birds Jean saw each day?

c. Harley read 5 books in January, 8 books in February, 4 books in March,


and 7 books in April. What is the average number of books Harley read
per month?
d. Eight children grew watermelons and entered them in the county fair. The
judges weighed each watermelon and recorded the results on the tables
below. Find the measures of central tendency of the weights of the
watermelons in both kilograms and pounds.

e. A gardener buys 10 packets of seeds from two different companies. Each


pack contains 20 seeds and he records the number of plants which grow
from each pack

*Find the mean, median and mode for each company's seeds.

3. Solve the questions by using ratios
a. The ratio of tomatoes to red apples is 2:5. If there are 20 tomatoes, how many red
apples are there?
b. The ratio of potatoes to turnips is 1:1. If there are 473 potatoes, how many turnips are
there?
c. The ratio of bananas to melons is 30:1 If there are 300 bananas, how many melons
are there?
d. The ratio of berries to oranges is 10:1. If there are 25 oranges, how many berries are
there?
e. The ratio of pears to green apples is 1:3. If there are 150 green apples, how many
pears are there?
f. The ratio of blueberries to strawberries is 1:7. If there are 210 strawberries, how many
blueberries are there.

4. Write 3 ratios according to the picture.
