Thank you for using LiveSynth Pro SE!

This readme contains some basic information and late-breaking news on LiveSynth Pro SE. Be sure to print
and read this short document, as it contains tips on how to best experience LiveSynth Pro SE.

What is LiveSynth Pro SE?

LiveSynth Pro SE is a professional SoundFont compatible software synthesizer for SONAR. With full
SoundFont 2.0 compatibility, you are no longer limited to your sound card's built-in sounds or expensive
hardware alternatives. LiveSynth Pro will work with any sound card, regardless of whether or not your sound
card supports SoundFonts. The special edition of LiveSynth Pro which is included with SONAR gives you a 30-
day period where you can enjoy all of the features of LiveSynth Pro. After this period, you will still be able to use
LiveSynth Pro, but the size of the SoundFonts you can use will be limited to 1 MB. The full version of LiveSynth
Pro which does not expire or have any limits on SoundFont size is available at http://www.livesynth.com.

Where should I start?

A number of sample sequences and their associated SoundFonts have been included with SONAR for your
listening pleasure. Open these examples as you would open any other Cakewalk project file and hit play. For
most installations, these examples can be found in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR 1\Sample
Content\SoundFonts\Sonic Implants. You can also find them in the \SoundFonts\Sonic Implants directory on
your SONAR CD.

How do I add LiveSynth Pro to my own projects?

1. Choose Insert-Audio Track to add a new audio track.

2. Right-click in the FX box and choose DX Instruments-LiveSynth Pro.
3. The LiveSynth Pro control panel will open automatically.
4. Click Browse and select a SoundFont (.sf2) file.
You can find a selection of Sonic Implant SoundFonts in the
C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR 1\Sample Content\SoundFonts\Sonic Implants directory or the
\SoundFonts\Sonic Implants directory on your SONAR CD. A good source for professional, ready to use
SoundFonts is http://www.sonicimplants.com
5. Choose an unused bank by entering the number into the “Bank #” text box. LiveSynth Pro supports up to
128 simultaneously loaded SoundFont banks.
6. Click Load to load the selected SoundFont.
7. Select “LiveSynth Pro” in the “Out” drop-down list for the MIDI track you want LiveSynth Pro to play.
8. In the “Bnk” drop-down list, select the SoundFont bank you loaded.

Where can I find more documentation?

control panel.

What should I do if I find a SoundFont that doesn't play correctly in LiveSynth Pro?

During the development of LiveSynth Pro, we have been ruthlessly focused on providing a software synthesizer
engine which accurately plays all SoundFonts 2.0 sound-sets. Even though we have tested LiveSynth with a
tremendous number of commercial SoundFonts and found them to behave flawlessly, there is always a small
chance that you could encounter a SoundFont that doesn't work properly in LiveSynth. If you find yourself in
this situation, we want to hear from you! Please send a description of the problem along with the SoundFont in
question to helpdesk@liveupdate.com.

We want your feedback!

LiveSynth Pro will be enhanced and upgraded on a regular basis. If you have any suggestions on how LiveSynth
Pro could be improved, please let us know! Among other things, we plan to improve the look of the LiveSynth
Pro Control Panel, and we will be including new features while we're at it. What would you like to see? Drop us
a line at feedback@liveupdate.com, we would love to hear from you!
