Scope Statement
Vision Statement
• Promote social responsibility by becoming an environmentally conscious
company
• Support cost management by utilizing free energy resources

Business Need
• Immediate and Long-term Cost savings
o Reduce the amount of purchased commercial power and avoid future
increased energy costs
• Capital Investment
o Increase the resale value of the company-owned property
• Tax Benefits
o Qualify for California Solar Power tax credits ($2.80/watt)
o Qualify for 10% Federal tax credit

Project Description
Install solar panels on the company’s building roof (to include the necessary
batteries, transformers, and connections) to generate solar power electricity
for the building’s operations in order to reduce the amount of commercial
power that the company must purchase.
page 4
Scope Statement - Project Deliverables
The following deliverables are in the scope of this project:
1. Installation of solar panels, structural improvements, transformers, batteries, a battery-
shelter facility, and necessary connections, wiring, and meters.
2. Training of building maintenance team on operation and maintenance of the installed
solar panels and associated equipment.
3. Construction drawings and specifications.
4. Generation of solar power electricity to power the company’s building.
5. Feasibility study to determine cost, cost savings, and tax rebates for the project.

The following deliverables are out of the scope of this project:

1. Conversion of the entire building to new green standards (i.e., energy efficient lighting,
equipment, windows, etc.)
2. Engagement of third party to provide on-going operations and maintenance by others
to maintain the system after it is installed and operating.
3. Expansion of the parking lot to compensate for spaces lost to install the batteries/
transformers.
4. Generation of electricity to any other facilities in the vicinity of the building.
6. Relocation of any employees or operations during construction.
7. Providing electricity to any other facilities in the vicinity.

page 6
Assumptions

• Permits are already acquired

• Electrical demand for the building’s operation will not change
• Existing site conditions on the property and around the building will not
impede construction
• On-site storage areas for construction materials is available
• Normal daytime working hours allowed (0700-1700)

page 7
Constraints

• Budget for the construction and materials will be fixed once contracts
are awarded
• Long lead time required for the procurement of some materials
• Building will remain occupied and business operations will continue
throughout the project
o Will not include relocation of any employees or operations during
construction
o High traffic days for the company’s market research operations –
coordination required to allow for construction to take place on
these days
• No full-time security staff – materials will need to be secured on-site to
avoid theft
