Reflective Report

Introduction to Aviation management course of 2019, delivered fundamental insight into the
managerial perspective of the Aviation industry. This Reflective review into the course will
depict key ideas of discussion points on course experience, Course Objective and graduate
qualities attained, insight into potential career path and skills to develop. The principles and
frameworks of the course depicted in the course outline enabled me in having a directed focuses
into individual continuous assessments and group work.

The Significance of introduction to Aviation management course has been designed in focus to
elaborate on the managerial operations in an Aviation environment. The general impression on
the content conveyed, depicts an emphasized focus on airline workflow. In particular,
introduction into air transport, Airline marketing, Aircraft financing and day to day operations.

Overall, the course experience from a learning perspective was exceptional. However, the
magnitude of the mandatory course work diminished my interest towards the course. The
continuous weekly assessments felt very repetitive. Furthermore lacked emphasis on the marking
criteria too in relations to contributions towards final grade. For example, 5000 words for 30%.
Nevertheless the integration of Airline Online created dynamics to this course. The simulated
program gave me the opportunity to put the theoretical course material taught in wensveen book
on Air transport: A management perspective. Airline online simulation program allowed a
perspective insight into what it is like running an airline and how to mitigate any operational
challenges. Overall satisfied with the course material and teaching staff. However, areas of future
improvements could be is by introducing weekly quizzes replacing 500 words each week.

This course has enriched my perception into the managerial Aviaiton environment. Through in-
depth learning into course objective listed below
- Identify and analyse basic organisational model used by major airlines
- Marketing functions
- Internal and external factors that affect airlines scheduling
- The importance of fleet planning and scheduling
- Impact of forecasting
In the development stages of Airline online, Identifying and analysing basic organisational
model was of importance. Applying theoretical understanding between Hub and spoke model
against Point to point enabled my group to create appropriate bases and operations. The next
challenging phase was determining routes and fleet selection. Through references of forecasting
models from the Wensveen book, various techniques were understood and routes were finalised
based on customer demand and appropriate fleets were selected and assigned. However, when
the airline started facing internal and external challenges, of unions going on strike and airport
closures due to natural catastrophise. combating those situations really put things into
perspective on the chain reaction within the Aviaiton environment.
The course objectives has allowed me to develop graduate qualities of personal growth in
professional practice and enabled me to observe interpretation skills. Future more, I have
developed logical and creative problem solving techniques through Airline online.

On predicting, the next five year period. I envision my future to be in an Aviaiton environment,
occupied as a qualified commercial pilot or a flight instructor. Upon researching commercial
pilot occupation on One net Online. I have come to an understanding that knowledge base
required involves having a proficient knowledge on principles and methods of people and goods
movement, along with providing customers the highest services. In specific, meeting quality
standards and keeping customer satisfaction to optimum.

The Duties and expectation of a pilot is considered at the highest regards. The three key
capabilities enlisted in being a successful a pilot is, developing and demonstrating the ability to
Aviate, Navigate and communicate. The Importance to Aviaite, comes first as a pilot is required
to have fundamental capabilities in being able to fly the aircraft. The second ability of Navigate
is essential, as pilot’s focal duties are to commute passengers from point A to point B. Lastly,
The importance of Communication is crucial for pilots in command and monitoring, as reports
on last and current fix positions must be conveyed to ATC in order to regulate airspace
movement. Furthermore, the concept of communication is necessary not only in a cockpit
environment, but also with operational crew and amongst customers.

The key skills developed through this course are, developing an understanding on the importance
of networking, emphasis on communication and learning the fundamental operational side of
Aviaiton management.

Overall, this course has been a new experience for me both from a learning and personal
developmental perspective. The theoretical principles and philosophies from Wensveen book
demonstrated a perspective insight into managerial roles and how they work. The integration of
the practical element of airline online was a fine balance and provided me the opportunity to
grasp fundamental basis of Asirline and Airport operations from a managements perspective.
The foremost skill I have developed from this course is communication. Literature
communication has been evident in continuous weekly submission, where my findings and
personal opinion of a topic of interest was delivered to the teacher via written materials. Other
forms of communication were used in group work, Verbal and non-verbal methods was required
during group works and interaction in class.
