ASSESSMENT CONDITIONS

This assessment needs to be completed individually. This is a good starting point to develop

organising and leadership skills which a project manager require for efficient and effective

outcomes of the project.

Further, a simple restatement defining project human resource management will be

insufficient to gain a pass level mark. This is because diploma level study requires more than

just simple recall of theory. Instead it requires an analytical and a practical approach.

LEARNING OUTCOMES ASSESSED

This assessment covers the following learning outcomes of the course as part of graduate

profile outcome(s):

1. Demonstrate leadership and human resource skills in the management of people

within a project context.

2. Demonstrate project management to ensure projects are delivered on time, on

budget and in accordance with specifications.

This assessment represents 50% of the Managing Project course. The pass mark for the

whole course is 50%.

INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS

• This is a homework assignment. Any sources used should be appropriately referenced

using APA style.

• Ensure your full name and student numberappear at the top of every assessment
page.

• Note the due date and time and submit your work by that deadline (10% of your marks

will be deducted for each working day that you are late, unless you have documented

evidence of a mitigating circumstance [e.g. illness].

SUBMISSION OF WRITTEN ASSESSMENTS

• All assignment submissions must have a front cover sheet and should include the

course name, student name and ID number.

• MS Word format using black and white color, with the main text in 12 point Arial.

• Must be typed using 2 line spacing.

• On A4 size paper, in either portrait or landscape format.

• Word limit is 1000 (minimum) to 1200 (maximum).

PROJECT PLANNING

Students must find a project which can be an existing or a new idea in IT, construction, food

industry, hospitality (e.g. hospital, hotel), government, education sectors or any idea which is

approved by your lecturer.

For the selected project, you will prepare a human resource plan as is explained in the
following

section.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND HUMAN RESOURCE PLAN

Assume yourself as a project manager and answer the following questions: (Total – 50

Marks) 1. The introductory section includes a definition of the project, project description,

backgrounds, aim and the expected outcomes (5 marks)

2. How do you plan and execute managing people within your project? (30

marks) Address the following issues:

a) Recruiting and selecting qualified staff

b) The criteria considered to build up your project team

c) Training and developing your staff according to your project requirements

d) Performance standards that you use to evaluating your staff

e) Rewarding system to motivate your staff

3. During the review of staff performance, if you have identified some areas which need

to be improved, then what is your suggestion? (15 marks)
