EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Traffic congestion refer to a situation on the road where there are many vehicles on the
highway due to the higher demand than the capacity at the same time and place. Traffic
congestion in General Luna-Ayala intersection occurs at am peak and pm peak where such
congestion was due to the road user going to and coming home from work, school, institution or
any other places. At this point, everyone flocked to get to their destinations and causing road
congestion.

As purpose of the study, it will contribute to provide recommendations to the

improvement of the intersection and it will give emphasis on the road signs that must be install in
the intersection specifically because it is an unsignalized intersection. This study will aid to
elevate the perspective in terms of designing a certain and able to consider the factors that can
affect in traffic congestion. For the College of Engineering, Architecture and Fine Arts, the study
will serve as an auxiliary future. It is beneficial for an ideal planning, design and construction of
a road or intersection to know the basics and apply the standard requirements in road
construction especially for the residents of Lipa City.

The approach in this study involves analysis of traffic of the intersection. Observation,
manual traffic counting were the main sources of data. Observations, gathering necessary data
and subsequent analysis of the data help to generate inductive conclusions on the level of service
at the observed or considered intersection. In this study, the intersection considered was located
at General Luna-Ayala Intersection, Lipa City.

Based on the analysis made, the maximum computed volume of traffic was 2006.8
PCU/hr in route going to Lipa City Hall while the minimum computed volume was 1072.7
PCU/hr in route going to Lipa City Market, however the computed volume in route going to Lipa
City SM was 1254.4 PCU/hr.

For the improvement of performance of the intersection, it is recommended to adjust the

geometric design of the intersection to assist the driver to maneuver without restricting the flow
of the other lane. It is also recommended to have additional traffic signages to have an organized
traffic system.
