Ed.S.

INTERNSHIP PLAN

Michigan Standard I – Visionary Leadership


Goal – To become an administrator that is involved within Student Affairs

Activity – (Leadership) Meet with mentor on a consistent basis and set up informational meetings.

Activity – (Participate) Research the rules, laws, and guidelines of policy and procedure for Student
Affairs.

Timeline – This will continue through the 2020 academic year.

Support Needed – My mentor and Professors of the Ed.S. program.

Michigan Standard II – Cultural & Instructional Leadership

Goal – Become a lecturer for the Department of Education & Human Services and/or School of Health
Sciences.

Activity – (Education) Complete the Ed.S. Degree and apply for the PhD and/or EdD of Educational
Leadership.

Activity – (Education) Complete the youth mental health training certification and become a coach for
mental health advising.

Timeline – This is likely to begin in Winter 2020 or sometime after.

Support Needed – Guidance from the Recreation & Wellness Directors, plus recommendations from
Dr. Abbott and Dr. Feun

Michigan Standard III - - Management


Goal – Continue to lead WXOU Radio as a functioning student-run organization that wins multiple
awards.

Activity – (Leadership) Oversee all Executive Staff and volunteers; create tasks & duties for everyone
involved; resolve conflicts within the workplace.

Activity – (Participation) Establish communication between all members of WXOU and coordinate staff
meetings, training, and advising sessions.

Timeline – This has been ongoing for years and will continue well into the next academic year.

Support Needed – My mentor is my direct supervisor and provides me with the rules and guidance
needed to make executive decisions.
Michigan Standard IV - Collaboration w/Faculty, Community Members, & Families
Goal – Create a pre-college student media program between Oakland University in the surrounding
school districts.

Activity – (Leadership) Contact media teachers at the high school level in the surrounding communities
and see how we can get students involved.

Activity – (Participate) Develop presentations for my staff so they can help spread messages to their
alma matter.

Timeline – The planning will begin in Summer 2019 and continue through the 2020 academic year

Support Needed – I will be networking with Pre-College Programs and the First Year Advising Center
to determine legalities and feasibility.

Michigan Standard V - Ethics, Integrity, Fairness, & Practice

Goal – Increase the inclusion and diversity rates across Oakland University’s campus.

Activity – (Attendance) – Continue to attend Professional Development Seminars in Student Affairs.

Activity – (Participation) Coordinate informational meetings with administrators in the department of


Student Affairs and include them with WXOU Radio.

Timeline – These seminars will occur periodically throughout the duration of the Ed.S. program.

Support Needed – I will need to be invited to the Professional Development Seminars, work closely
with Student Affairs, and identify related events serving the community.

Michigan Standard VI - Student Success by Understanding, Responding to, & Advocating for Student
Learning

Goal – Develop a set of surveys and research methods that will be used by the Office of Student
Involvement (OSI) to collect data on how students involved on campus impacts their learning and
perception of higher education.

Activity – (Leadership) Pitch the idea to the Director of the OSI and explain the research benefits of the
data.

Activity – (Participation) Research similar methods already implemented on campus and combine those
surveys.

Timeline – This will begin in the Fall 2019 semester and last throughout the 2020 academic year.

Support Needed – My mentor should allow me to distribute the surveys and connect me with the
necessary participants.
Michigan Standard VII - Substantial & Sustained Educational Leadership Internship Experience

Goal – To gain enough experience working underneath the Director of Student Involvement so that I
can be an administrator in Student Affairs and/or for the Pre-College Programs at Oakland University
and research student retention rates and ways to increase enrollment.

Activity – (Leadership) Coordinate meetings with Jean Ann Miller to brainstorm ideas on how I can
broaden my experience outside the classroom and WXOU Radio.

Activity – (Participation) Attend Student Activity Fund Assessment Committee (SAFAC) meetings,
along with Professional Development seminars for Student Affairs.

Timeline – This began in November of 2018 and will conclude at the end of summer in 2020.

Support Needed – My mentor will allow me to attend meeetings, seminars, and various workshops on
behalf of the Office for Student Involvement.
