This paper provides a study on the challenges faced by the learners during online
learning where it is mainly due to self-motivation of the learners and the technology
challenges. It is necessary to find out the solution to this matter, however there is
limited study focusing on the effectiveness of the online learning in primary and
secondary schools in Malaysia as it is just started fully since the operation of MCO in
the end of March.

It is hoped that with this study on the challenges of online learning, the pertinent
parties, especially the school administration and teachers can take it serious to think of
the solution in solving the challenges faced so that the learners no matter from the
urban or rural areas will gain the benefits of online learning. The teachers should have
vary the ways of conveying the lesson to attract the learners’ attention and the learners
would be more active to take part in the online learning as they feel that learning is
meaningful. Moreover, not only the teachers and learners should be responsible for
online learning, the parents should have taken initiative in providing support and
guidance for the young learners as parents have better opportunities to reinforce
learning. They should convey the importance of online learning and motivate the
learners to use it frequently.
