EPG quick manual

1. System structure

There is an example: Programs input from the ‘Gigabit Ethernet

card’. Output by the ‘8-Channel QAM Card’ to the STB (or HFC
network). The EPG use the IP transmit, the EPG sever IP interface connect
to the ‘Gigabit Ethernet card’, ’Gbe’ interface with switch.

As shown in the figure, select programs from the ‘Gigabit Ethernet

card’, port 1.Output by ‘8-Channel QAM Card’, port 1.Frequense is
554 KHz as below.
2. Start the EPG

2.1 Run the <MidTier>

Run (D:\EPG\EPG Middleware) , then check the MidTier

icon.

Note: If EPG system is IP output version, we should edit

‘TranDLLCofig.ini’ in (D:\EPG\EPG Broadcasting)
LocalIP=192.168.1.200 (This is the EPG sever local IP address)
DestIP=192.168.1.141(For set Destination IP address. Support
Unitcast & Multicast.)
DestPort=4389(For set the UDP port for destination IP.)

2.2 Run the <EPG Editor>

Click (D:\EPG\EPG Editor),Then key-in the Password and

User name. Default password: 12345 User name: Admin
3. Add and configure network, TS, service

3.1. Add network

At the main page as below . Add the “Network” information.
Note: check out before adding.

Right click <All network>and choose <add network>, then input

the network information as below. Click “OK” for sure.
Network ID should be same as that in the SMR (or any other MUX
device).

3.2 Add TS

Right-click the Network and choose <Add TS> for adding TS

information.
Input the TS ID and Original network ID, and these should also be
the same as that in the SMR. And input the Cable delivery information.
The frequency information can be checked as below.

3.3 Add service

Service ID: Same as the real program information in SMR.

Service name is the program name will showing on the TV.
Running Status choose “Run”
“Ok” for sure.

3.4 SAVE
After add all the service information for the TS. Click<Commit> to
Save.
4. Configure table generation.

4.1 Click <Function>, choose<Configure table generation>

4.2 generating “NIT, BAT, SDT, EIT”
Left side is the menu of all tables, right side for choosing service
or TS to generate table. In quick configure we take NIT SDT EIT for
example as following

Take the first TS as the main frequency, so the first frequency NIT
will contain the information of all the programs. The other tables just
need to send self table information as follows.
Next figure is example for 2nd TS.

After setting, <Commit> to save .

Note: check out before editing.

5. Edit <Event list of digital TV service>

5.1 Event list of digital TV service

Click <Function>and choose <Event list of digital TV service>,
<Text>.
5.2 edit event information
Left side show all the services, right side are for adding event.
5.3 Choose ‘Add an event at the beginning’ will turn to this page

Set the time by ‘Duration(s)’, the unit is second. Also, can set
the time by the ‘Start time’ and ‘End time’.

5.4 <Short event descriptor>

Choose the type of ‘Language code’, input the Event name, and
the Description for this event. Then set it to right side by arrow
button’->’.
This page for add the content description

This page we can set the ‘Country code’ and the ’Min age
recommended’.
Extended event descriptor page

When finish the setting. Click OK for save.

5.5 Add an event at the end time
Back to this page continue to ‘add an event at the end time’. The
configure as above.

Also ,can double-click on the right side to fill the information.

5.6 Delete the event by the right click as figure below

After add all the events, click <Commit> to save.

6. Import Multiple Program Lists

6.1 Set the file name of service program list

Choose<Set the file name of service program list>.

Double-click the list, type in the file name for the program. (Usually
use the same name for the programs)

Commit to save.
6.2 Choose<Function>, <Import multiple program lists>

Choose CCTV is Standard EPG format. China EPG is Chinese standard.

Choose the service need to be imported and click ‘Next’.
Fill in the URL and click ’Import program List file’ to finish the import.

Note: The name of file which for import to the service should
be 100% same as the <File name> name. If not, the import
will fail.

7. Configure the EMR (or MUX)

7.1 Check the Configuration of table sending.
Choose the “configuration of table sending”.

Then on this page we can check the table PID. Here take the NIT
for example.
Usually the PID of table begin with :NIT 0x20,SDT 0X21,EIT
0X22,TDT/TOD 0X23;
The next TS will continue as: NIT 0x24, SDT 0X25, EIT 0X26, and
TDT/TOD 0X27

7.2 Monitoring the PID output of the EPG

Double-click the <Monitor.exe>at “d:\EPG\EPG Broadcasting” as

below.
In this interface, click <Start>
Then the module will show all the PID and the bit rate.

7.3 The communication of EPG to EMR

In this case, the EPG input by the ‘Gigabit Ethernet Card ’, port 16.
Output by the ‘8-Channel QAM Card’, port 1.for TS1.(Main Freq.)
Output used by the ‘8-Channel QAM Card’, port 2.for TS2.
EPG IP configuration as <2.1.> destination IP is 192.168.1.141—the
IP of EMR. Destination UDP is 4389.
Configure the parameter on the EMR <SNMP Para> page as follow
Choose the Gigabit Ethernet Card, port 16, and input the IP
address and UDP port. Check the Table PID input.
When the EMR got the PID input ,in the <SNMP Para>page like above
on the <port16 input System bit rate>will show the bit rate.
And also can fresh the PID input on the page of <Output Set>.(should
choose refresh all PID)
7.4 PSI interval set

In the detail page, click the output port, set the SI table interval
generate by the EMR to ‘0’. <Apply>, <OK>to save.

Here just example for 1st TS. All the other TS use to send the EPG
information need to setting the sending Interval too.
After this, should click the “set all ” for saving the changement.

7.5 PID Map

7.5. A. In the <Output Set>page, click <PID MAP>
7.5. B. On the PID map page, choose the correct EPG input and
output port.

‘Add’ to save.
Then add the NIT, SDT, EIT, and TOT/TIT one by one for TS1.

The PID map principle as below:

0x20->0x10
0x21->0x11
0x22->0x12
0x23->0x14
For the second TS, use the <8-Channel QAM card>, <port 2>to
output the EPG. The configuration as follows. Input start with 0x24
outputs still to 0x10.
Also add the other one by one:
Here can reference the input and output PID for understanding.

After add all PID map, click <OK>save to the SNMP.

<Set all>save to the EMR

And that is all.
