The Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019

Globalization has made it possible for people to communicate with each other from
different parts of the world. We are able to live conveniently and comfortably because of
globalization however, it still has its pros and cons. One of its pros is that we can interact and
communicate globally with other people. One of its cons is that it made contagious diseases, like
coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spread around the world rapidly which caused the
population rate worldwide to decrease. COVID-19 has taken its toll on the world, causing deaths,
illnesses, and economic despair.

People were unaware of the existence of the new highly contagious disease. The COVID-
19 outbreak affects all segments of population and is particularly harmful to those people who are
in the most vulnerable situations including those who are living in poverty, older persons, persons
with disabilities, youth and indigenous people. Those who were tested positive for COVID-19 had
no idea that the people who they interacted with was already carrying the disease. The disease
originated in Wuhan City, Hubei province, China, and it has now affected the people all around
the world. The disease has become a huge threat to the people especially when the number of
deaths keep on increasing.

The COVID-19 pandemic is considered as the most crucial global health calamity of the
century, and the greatest challenge that the humankind faced since World War II. Early evidence
indicates that that the health and economic impacts of the virus are being borne disproportiona te ly
by the less fortunate because there are homeless people who are not able to have a safe shelter to
stay which made them highly exposed to the danger of the virus. People who are not able to provide
themselves the basic essentials that they needed are also suffering to survive in this time of
hardship.

Different industries are greatly affected by this pandemic like the airlines industry, and
entertainment industry. When countries started their lockdown, many flights were cancelled since
no one can enter or exit the country. Following the cancellation of flights, many airlines suffered
great loss as flights were cancelled and booking of flights was also not allowed. Some businesses,
especially small businesses, are also at risk of closing down because people are not allowed to go
out of their houses unless their purpose is to buy some basic essentials. The key factors that affect
the entertainment industry after the COVID-19 pandemic include the shutdowns of the theatrical
product, cinema theatres among others. The entertainment industry also include online video
streaming, amusement parks, sports, live events, and trade shows. The outbreak of COVID-19 had
a dual impact on these segments as all the upcoming events have been canceled or delayed, due to
which most of the companies experienced losses. While the online video streaming segment is
witnessing a significant hike, video streaming companies are coming up with new solutions when
people are residing more at their homes like Netflix launching a Netflix Party that allows the users
to access the video in group and watch them together.

COVID-19 is affecting the lives of many people in different ways. It reshaped the lives of
many like how their usual daily routine and how they interact with one another changed. Amidst
the crisis we are facing right now, there are still many people who would risk their lives helping
those who are in need of help especially the frontliners. Looking for the cure of the disease might
take time, but time will come that this pandemic will finally end.
