TRASHI YANGTSE DZONGKHAG

COMMON ANNUAL- EXAMINATION- 2018

Subject: Physic Writing Time: 2 Hours

Class: IX Total Marks: 100

_____________________________________________________________________________

READ THE FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY.

1. Do not write for the first fifteen minutes. This time is to be spent on reading the questions. After
having read the questions, you will be given two hours to answer all questions.
2. In this paper, there are two sections: A and B. Section A is compulsory. You are expected to
attempt ANY FIVE questions from Section B.
3. The intended marks for questions or parts of questions, are given in brackets [].
4. Read the directions to each question carefully and write all your answers in the answer sheet
provided separately.

Section A [ 50 Marks]
Compulsory: Attempt all Questions.

Question 1
(a) Directions: For each question in this section is provided with four possible options. Choose
the most appropriate option and write it in the answer sheet provided. [1×25=25 Marks]

I. The heat required to raise the temperature of 50g of water through 100C is
(use specific heat capacity of water = 4200 Jkg-1 0C-1)

A 500J. C 2500J.
B 2100J. D 3000J.

II. Force is a vector quantity because it has

A both magnitude and direction.

B only magnitude.
C only direction.
D no magnitude and direction.

III. At high altitude noose bleeding may occur because the

A blood pressure decreases.
B atmospheric pressure decreases.
C acceleration due to gravity decreases.
D oxygen content of the atmosphere decreases.
IV. Dorji heated water in a bucket for taking bath. And he found that his water was at the
temperature of 600 C. The temperature of the water in kelvin scale is
A 213 K
B 323 K
C 333 K
D 373 K
V. All the statements given below are true EXCEPT

A if the atmospheric pressure falls suddenly, it indicates the arrival of storm.

B if the atmospheric pressure falls gradually, it indicates fair weather.
C at higher altitude, nose bleeding may occur due to reduced air pressure.
D at lower altitude, ears get blocked due to increased air pressure.
VI. When a ray of light is incident normally on the interface of any media, the refracted ray

A returns to the first medium.

B bends away from the normal.
C bends toward the normal.
D does not bend all.

VII. Earth & Beyond.

VIII. The action and reaction forces referred to in Newton’s third law;
A must act on the same object.
B may act on different objects.
C must act on different objects.
D need not to be equal in magnitude but must have the same direction.

IX. When a strong magnet is moved near a copper coil,

A there is no effect on the copper coil.
B voltage is induced across the copper coil.
C copper coil is attracted toward the magnet.
D copper coil is repelled away from the magnet.

X. For total internal reflection to occur

A light must travel from a denser medium to a rarer medium.
B light must travel from a rarer medium to a denser medium.
C the angle of incidence must be less than the critical angle.
D the angle of incidence must be equal to the critical angle

XI. Earth & Beyond.

XII. “Steam at 1000C causes more severe burns than boiling water at the same temperature”. The
reason for the above statement is
A steam has high latent heat.
B steam has high specific heat capacity of water.
C steam has high specific latent heat of vaporization of water.
D steam has high specific latent heat of fusion of ice.
XIII. The real depth of a swimming pool where the water appears to be raised by 100 cm above the
bottom would be (refractive index of water=1.33)
A 98.7cm
B 100cm
C 101.3cm
D 133cm.
XIV. WAVES.
XV. When the number of electrons flowing through a cross- section of a conductor increases, the
electric current through the conductor
A decreases.
B increases.
C remains the same.
D first increases and then decreases.
