MATH 15300/44: Test 3 Prep

1. Format
The test will be held Thursday, March 5, 11:00 am to 12:20 pm. It will consist of 6-7 problems.
I will supply the exam papers and test-taking booklets. You can use either pen or pencil, but
you may not use calculators or electronic help of any kind. If you use the restroom, please give any
phones or other electronic devices to the proctor at the front of the room. Please let the proctor
know if the test contains an error! Otherwise, please do your best to interpret the wording of the
problems accurately.
I will hold extra-long office hours on Wednesday, March 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. As before, I
will post solutions online after the test.

2. What We Cover
§15.4, §15.6 Review of limits, continuity, and derivatives of multivariable functions. At most one
problem from here. Please see the problems on the study guide for Test 2.
§16.1-§16.2 Gradients and directional derivatives.
• §16.1, #4, 6, 8, 16, 20, 34, 40.
• §16.2, #2, 3, 12, 17, 24, 26, 34, 41(b).
§16.3 The chain rule for multivariable functions.
• §16.3, #8, 10, 18, 20, 21, 26, 34.
§16.4 Tangent lines and tangent planes to graphs of functions.
• §16.4, #12, 14, 18, 23, 34, 36.
§17.2 Double integrals evaluated via geometry. At most one problem from here.
• §17.2, #18, 19, 20, 21.
