Probable Reasons for Corona Pandemic

First Speaker:
Good morning everyone, hope you all are fine by the grace of almighty Allah. Today we've been
given the topic probable reasons for corona pandemic. I fowzia Abida the first speaker from the
group 1 would like to start now.

Before we get into the reasons directly, I firstly want to clear the terms of the topic .And that’s
why I will say first what is corona virus and a little about its discovery and what’s a pandemic

There are two concepts about Corona Virus. One applies for the earlier times and another for the
recent time. In previous years it was known Corona viruses are a group of related viruses that
cause diseases in mammals and birds.

In humans, corona viruses cause respiratory tract infections that can be mild, such as some cases
of the common cold .But for now ,It has been speeded among humans mostly and not with mild
infections anymore.

Corona viruses were first discovered in the 1930s when an acute respiratory infection of
domesticated chickens was shown to be caused by infectious bronchitis virus.

A pandemic describes an infectious disease where we see significant and ongoing person-to-
person spread in multiple countries around the world at the same time.

How it got speeded: corona viruses are common in certain species of animals, such as cattle and
camels. Although the transmission of corona viruses from animals to humans is rare, this new
strain likely came from bats, though one study suggests pangolins may be the origin.

However, it remains unclear exactly how the virus first spread to humans.

Some reports trace the earliest cases back to a seafood and animal market in Wuhan. It may have
been from here that SARS-CoV-2 started to spread to humans.

And Now I’m going to say about the reasons behind this pandemic. Firstly we have to know how
the virus spreads. Because the root of this pandemic is how fast it spreads.

SARS – COV – 2, is a new strain that had not been previously identified in humans.
Little is known about it, although human to human transmission has been confirmed. SARS –
COV – 2 spreads from person to person through close communities. When people with COVID –
19 breath out or cough. They expel tiny droplets that contain the virus.
The most common way this illness spreads is through close contact. The disease is most
contagious when a person’s symptoms are at their peak. However it is possible for someone
without symptoms to spread the virus. A new study suggests that 10% of infections are people
exhibiting no symptoms.
But if we only blamed the virus for the pandemic and how much contagious it can be , it will not
provide the whole picture properly. Surely the virus is very dangerous and completely new to us.
It can’t be denied that the recklessness of the political party in China, covering up true
information and facts in the earliest days of the situation played a contributing role of how the
pandemic has become now. So what actually happened?
The virus was actually first found in China in November 2019. The first outbreak of COVID –
19 was traced to the live animal market in Wuhan. Wuhan is connected to other major Chinese
cities and connected to the world via an international airport which contributed this outbreak to
turn into a global pandemic.
According to a report in the Lancet medical journal the 1st patient infected with this virus was in
Dec 1st, 2019. So the outbreak was first acknowledged on December 31st . But the government
took the needed action not before 23rd of January. We all know for a basic fact that when a
outbreak occurs, the time to respond should be as early as possible when you have a handful of
human cases.
But the Chinese government’s response to this outbreak was exactly the opposite. The
government was notoriously dishonest about how dangerous it was becoming each day. They
even announced officially from the city government that “There seems to be a bit of a problem
but don’t worry about it the government has it well under control” and advised the locals to
remain calm.
“The People’s Daily”, official newspaper in China didn’t even mention the epidemic for 20
consecutive days since January 1st. So there was a lack of effective response to the outbreak at
the local level.

Countries around the world are implementing measures to slow the spread of the corona virus,
from national quarantines to school closures. More than a third of the planet's population is under
some form of restriction. The World Health Organization, which has officially declared the
outbreak a pandemic, has called on "all countries to continue efforts that have been effective in
limiting the number of cases and slowing the spread of the virus."
While "lockdown" isn't a technical term, it can refer to anything like staying at home, closures of
certain types of businesses, or bans on events and gatherings. And corona virus restrictions and
legislations have already led to political unrest and major governmental changes.

The "corona virus bill" has already faced pushback from the European Union. Moscow residents
were ordered to stay at home — they can only leave to go to the grocery store or pharmacy or
walk their pets within 100 meters of their home, according to Bloomberg.

At least 27 other regions in Russia have followed. New Zealand went into a month-long national
lockdown on March 25. Saudi Arabia already suspended international flights and closed
mosques, schools, and restaurants; it also imposed a curfew. Riyadh, and the Islamic holy cities
Mecca and Medina, are under lockdown. India went into full corona virus lockdown for 21days
on march 24. The lockdown will be the largest stay at home order yet, with 1.3 billion told to
social distance.

The UK government said that citizens will only be allowed to leave their homes for essential
work, exercise, and purchasing food or medicine. Gatherings of more than two people —
excluding people who live together — will be banned, as will most ceremonies other than
funerals.

Australia closed non-essential businesses on March 23. On Tuesday, the most populous state in
the country was put into a stricter lockdown. On March 16, the European Union banned non-
essential travel into the region for at least 30 days.

It is important to note that COVID-19 is new, and research is still ongoing. There may also be
other ways that the pandemic is happening so fast.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has been sudden. This makes it difficult to estimate how often the
disease becomes severe or the exact rate of mortality.
