William” is an award-winning rap musical which was originally written by Mr. Ron
Capindig for the 44th season of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA).
Since then, the play has been known to be one for the favorites among the theater-goers
since it features some of the current rap music that somehow embodies the characters in
the play.

In partnership with the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA),

Capinding’s “William” was staged in the university through a student-run theater
organization, Mediartrix, last February 2, 2020 at the Albertus Magnus Auditorium. The
play was pretty different from all the musicals that the organization has produced in the
past couple of years. I have seen some plays staged also in the same auditorium which
featured songs which are more on the softer and mellow side. This play is very much
impressive since it doesn’t just involve music, but rap music. I felt as if Mediartrix stepped
out of their comfort zone and tried to venture out in touching new forms in theater
production. They went beyond boarders with this play since it also tackled one of the
famous poets in history, William Shakespeare. I was also very much impressed on how
the characters really embraced their roles in the production. It took me back somehow in
high school when we were tasked to present in class may it be through drama or play.
The production somehow reminded me also of the famous Disney movie, High School
Musical since it somehow resembles the part in which they solve their personal conflicts
through rap and music.

Overall, the play was very much relatable to the teens at present with all the
happenings and scenes done in the production. Moreover, I think that Mediartrix really
gave justice to the adaptation of this award-winning play, “William”.
