Ashoka is known for being Ayurvedic medicine's most potent uterine tonic and has
many traditional uses to help support a healthy female reproductive system. Its name--
which literally means "remover of sorrow"--attests to its ability to promote both health
and healing.
Ashoka
The Ashoka tree is a medium sized evergreen that is still found growing wild in the
Himalayas and across the Indian sub-continent. It is classed as one of the divine herbs –
divya aushadhis – in Ayurveda, and is revered for its spiritual properties as well as its
many benefits to the physical health of the body. The bark of the Ashoka tree is rich in
flavonoids, tannins and glycosides that work as a uterine sedative that has a direct
impact on the fibers present in the muscles of the uterus.
Working:
The chemical constituents reported from Ashoka belong to different classes such as
tannins, flavonoids, phytosterols, alkanes, esters, anthocyanin pigments, fatty acids and
carbohydrates. These constituents are responsible for its function.
Usage:
Add to water or fruit juice.
Traditionally Taken: Take 2-3 ml 2-3 times per day, or as directed by an Herbal
Practitioner.
