Importing Controller Tag Descriptions to RSLogix 5000/Designer

1. Open the Sample Program folder in the AL1020, AY1020 or AL1x2x setup packages to find
Tags and Logic Comments Folder.

2. Open the Tag and Logic Comments folder to find the .CSV file and import instructions

3. Right click on the .CSV file and open with Notepad

4. The .CSV file has been saved with the following Ethernet Module names:
AL1x2x – “A1x2x_IOLink”
AL1020 – “AL1020_IOLink”
AY1020 – “AY1020_IOLink”

Note: In order to import the CSV file to RSLogix/Designer the name of the Ethernet
Module must match the name given in the PLC program.

5. Find the Ethernet Module’s name in the PLC by right clicking on the created Ethernet
Module and clicking Properties.
6. Copy the Name

7. In Notepad navigate to the Replace function by going to Edit-Replace…

8. Enter “AL1020_IOLink or AY1020_IOLink or AL1x2x_IOLink” in the ‘Find what:’ space.

9. Paste the name of the Ethernet Module to be used in the PLC program where the tags
are to be imported.
10. Click the Replace All button.
11. Save the file to the PC

12. When offline with the PLC go to Tools-Import-Tags and Logic Comments…

13. Follow the prompts to find the saved file and click “Import” to start the import process.

If the tags were imported correctly no errors will occur and the descriptions will be
written to the Controller Tags
