 PRESENT SIMPLE/PRESENT CONTINUOUS
E: Hey Jess, how are you doing?
J: Hey Ellen. Listen, I wanted to tell you that I’ve been working hard to get a
scholarship but my grades say otherwise. Every day I wake up at 4 a.m. and I
immediately start reading some books, but given that I’m not getting the results I
expected, I think I’m going to drop out university.
 HAVE TO/ DON’T HAVE TO
E: Don’t you say that Jess! I’ve known you since forever. A friend of mine
recommended me to make mental maps. It helped me a lot. You definitely have
to give it a try if you haven’t done it yet. He also told me that doing a review at
home of the courses I had through the day would help me. That’s a must-do if
you want to retain more information for longer periods of time.
 WILL
J: OMG you’re right! I learned that stuff back in high school. I’ll give it a try right
away.
E: You’re welcome.
J: thank you so much you’re such a good friend. Will we go out this Saturday?
we will eat in a group with some friends
 MUST/ MUST’N
E: Yeah, sure. But first, you must show me some proof that you’ve done what I
just told you.
J: Okay Ellen, I’ll do as you say. I have to go now; my mom is waiting for me at
home. I have to help her make lunch and buy some groceries and I must help
 GOING TO
E: No problem. I’m going to go on a date with a guy I just met, I’ll text you in the
night.
J: Okay, at night you tell me, I going to take the bus, see you
 USED TO
At the night, Ellen calls Jess
E: Hey Jess, I’m very surprised, the guy of my date…Do you remember that I
say it you?
J: Of course, what happened?
E: He used to be friend of your ex-boyfriend
J: I can’t believe, I didn’t use to speak with him but he called me a moment ago,
all that is weird. Well, before the battery of my cell phone used to last a long
time, now I do not have to leave the phone.
E: Okay Jess, good night.
