Introduction
• A shortage of truck availability is foreseen in the next 1 to 1.5 month (December 2007 – January 2008).
Due to the high export activity of the textile industry, private companies have a need for a significant
quantity of trucks that will compete with the needs of the relief operation.
• Prices have already increased for 25 to 35%,
o Transporting relief goods to the Southern area will be at a higher price when the trucks have to
come back empty.
o During December – January period, an additional increase will probably occur due to the
expected truck shortage.
• Regarding the transport companies:
o A company with 15 to 20 trucks is considered large in Bangladesh
o Two of the main transport companies: Baghdad Transport & Port Transport Agency can work in
consortium, with a total of around 100 trucks + trailers.
o Only a limited number of trucks is covered, most truck capacity is uncovered.
