Electric vehicles are not the only key to reach the 2020 EU CO2 target

Painpoint: The average CO2 for new cars and vans remain higher than the 2020 target set by the European Commission despite the strong positive
evolution of Electric Vehicles (Evs) sales
Method:
After studying the average CO2 per passenger cars for EU 28 (28 countries), we have compared the evolution of Battery and plug
in vehicles (same scope)

 g CO2/km: grammes of carbon dioxide per km.

 2015 target for new passenger cars: 130 g CO2/km.
 2020 target for new passenger cars: 95 g CO2/km.

Finding:
There is a link between the negative evolution of the average CO2 per passenger cars and the rise of EVs sales until 2015. After 2015
the sales of EVs do not impact as much as before the average CO2 for passenger cars

Conclusion:
 Electric vehicles is one answer to reach the European Commission 2020 C02 target and Car Manufacturers would have to increase the
pace of their sales
 Car manufacturers would have to invest in other technologies as low consumption and low emission engines for thermic cars to reach
the target
