Reflection Paper: Should You Go to Graduate School?

Contemporarily, getting a good position in the corporate world is highly

competitive. For some who think they are mere average, it is very worrisome. There will
always be someone more knowledgeable, more capable, and more experienced. In
order to stand out, I know that I need to have a substantial advantage over my
competitors.

In the accounting course, it is evident that getting a CPA license is one step
closer to success. Even though you studied very hard to pass the board exam, there are
still over 188,000 CPAs you have to compete heads-on in the Philippines. I am currently
struggling in undergrad but I am nowhere near to giving up. I am still undecided where
to go or what to do after I graduate (Yes, I’m claiming it!). But my plans are either to
work abroad or to take up master’s degree. My knowledge and skills are still lacking but
I am eager to learn and work hard because I know I don’t want to be ordinary, I want the
best for myself and my family. That is why I am aspiring to be in a high ranked position
of an organization one day. And to ensure a managerial position, one clear requirement
is to have a master’s degree or for some even a doctoral degree. There is no losing
situation in going to a graduate school except that it will be very costly. Especially for
me, every penny is hard-earned money. I am unsure if I will be handling the expenses
very well but I know it will worth it. I am always advised to study and attend classes as
much as I can because it will not only look good in CV but there is continuous
improvement of oneself.

I don’t want to waste any more time. I want to help my family as soon as I can so
I am thinking of working and going to graduate school at the same time but I know the
risks and how challenging it could be. However, I won’t start something that I won’t
finish. If I really want to do this, I know I need to be confident and be devoted to it. There
are many risks in going to graduate school. It is not easy compared to being an
undergrad. That is why I will take the time that I still have now to decide wisely. After all,
my future does not only include myself but also the future of those depending on me.
