Speech Outline

General goal: To give information about deforestation

Specific Goal: To explain three major bad effects the world is facing due to deforestation.

Introduction

Attention getter: Do you guys know? Because of deforestation, between 1901 and 2012, it is

believed that the earth's temperature has risen by 0.89 °C. It is also believed that sea levels have

risen up to about 19cm globally, with lots of glaciers melting in addition. Scientists have warned

that the world's climate has changed a lot, and has affected many living and non-living things.

Speaker Credibility: I Tried to find some information from the internet and books and

newspapers about the bad effects of the deforestation, which will affect the entire world.

Listeners Relevance: As the temperature risen and glaciers are melting and sea levels have risen

to about 19cm, and the number is increasing slowly day by day. That is a matter of concern for

all of us and we should take necessary steps about deforestation.

Thesis Statement: Deforestation have three major problems, Soil erosion destruction, water cycle

and climate change.

Body

A. Soil erosion destruction:

1. Soils are exposed to the sun’s heat. Soil moisture is dried up, nutrients

evaporate and bacteria that help break down organic matter are affected.
2. Eventually, rain washes down the soil surfaces and erosion take place.

3. Human activities have increased by 10–50 times the rate at which erosion is

occurring Worldwide.

B. Water Cycle:

1. When forests are destroyed, water bodies, and the water table are all affected

because trees absorb and retain water in their roots.

2. Less water will run through the rivers and smaller lakes that take water from

these larger rivers dry up.

C. Climate change:

1. Plants absorb Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere and use it to produce their

food and in return, it gives off Oxygen.

2. Destroying the forests means Carbon Dioxide will remain in the atmosphere

and this will alter the climate of that region.

3. Carbon Dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere are now well over 400ppm

– their highest levels in over 800,000 years.

Conclusion

Review of main points: Deforestation lead to soil erosion, will affect water cycle and will destroy

our climate.

Clincher: If we don’t take any step right now, do you think the world will remain a safe place

for the mankind to survive?

Appeal to action: I would like to call out to everyone, every one of us should take their own way

of action to stop deforestation right now.
