PB, CQ, Stuber, Sid, Shtar, also featuring a plethora of other banana gear, lorre mill, mroztronium, blippoo etc and solenoid
acoustic percussion! It's a killer release and we're really happy to share it with the world on hand dubbed cassette through
my analog mastering chain.
Hope you all enjoy it.

We also have some of our other releases back in stock, including Cosmic Call which is heavily based around unconventional
uses of Tetrax:

Awesome! Seems you're not alone, this was our fastest selling tape yet!
For me it's a perfect release, concise, succinct, crazy as hell but every idea is given it's moment and never allowed to stray off
into irrelevant mumblings. It's similarly very 'pure' sounding and unadulterated in terms of post production, it hasn't been
prodded and poked into position like so much other music these days (not that I don't enjoy that). Mastering the record was
quite a unique challenge, every track had to be allowed the appropriate amount of space to breathe right, funny how it chrisdermo

Indeed it sounds rather dry but in a good way. Joined: Mon Feb 21, 2011 3:25 pm

To prevent those random mumblings in my work I'm usually very selective about the stuff I allow to get into a looper for
instance. But beeing to restrictive on the other hand can lead to monotonous and repetitive structures. You seem to have
nailed this balance
I don't own Ciat Lonbarde instruments but would you mind sharing patch notes if you have?

I didn't make the Scy1e record - that was made by Raub of Scy1e / Horaflora / Weird Ear fame, my involvement was
mastering and it was released on my label, 0PR. The second album in the post (Cosmic Call) is one that I made.
Perhaps if Raub sees this (not sure he uses Muffs much these days) he can share some notes on how he made the album.

Patch notes, eh? I could field a more specific OR more coarse query, but don't have specific patch notes from these,
generally. I will say that a lot of it comes down to 'tuning' the responses between things, as there's a lot of interaction
between the instruments - I generally will build up a system-wide patch and play it for up to a month, sometimes getting a
good deal of material, but usually being satisfied to take away a small portion for later involvement in an album such as this
one.
If you had specific instruments, sounds, or rhythms you were curious about, I could perhaps speak a bit more to some stuff.
As for it being dry, I 'come from' the EAI side of experimental music, and have a strong predilection for more tactile qualities
in sound, I want it to tickle your eardrum, rather than sound grandoise, as could be done with a rich reverb or what have
you.
Glad you enjoy, and happy to chat more, cheers!

Building something for a month is definitely commitment.
Instrument wise I'm looking into buying the Cocoquantus so I'm curios how you used it on the record.
The low haunting drone sounds on Differing: How did you create and sequence those?

I'm pretty certain that is op-1, using a vocal sample, using one of its internal sequencers, and it's 'phone' effect, going
through the A/V Dog input of Plumbutter. I think I would have had the AV Dogs overlapping, so there's less stereo action
there than one usually gets from anything Ciat.
Check out the vocal samples on 'expressing air' and more-so on 'Lately creeps' for coco usage, I tend to use it for more
stereophonic/granular sound than for it's lo-fi sound, in fact, I try to avoid the lo-fi of it when I can, I think a lot of people
are attracted to that aspect though (lofi), and it tends to be more the focus of a lot of pieces utilizing it, rather than it's more
plastic-ey granular aspects (lots of instagram vids using coco where it's just audio running through, with no skip/flip/freq
modulation, just looking to add grit)
All for now, cheers!

Thank you for the detailed explanation. Joined: Mon Feb 21, 2011 3:25 pm

The reason I'm attracted to the CQ is because of lofi and the stuff you can do with weird sampling, that is in some ways
granular.
Its hard for me to get an idea what these machines are really capable of, but the music here and the generous explanations
are helping a lot
