Fandango Dance

What is Folk Dance?

Folk dance is a genre of dance that is typically performed for
recreational purposes and is a vernacular reflection of a past or present
culture. Up to the middle of the 20th century, folk dancing was a
recognized phrase. Then, the distinctions between this and other dance
categories were called into.
What is Fandango Dance?

The Fandango, a unique fusion of folk and flamenco dancing, has a rich cultural
history that dates back to the Baroque era and the royal court in Madrid, Spain.
Here is some background on the evolution of the Fandango as music and a
dancing craze that is still going strong today.

Count Pattern

1st copla Six sets of twelve count phrases, performed with or without castanets
and using conventional regional or flamenco dances and phrases, make up each
verse.
The most popular fandango styles (or Palos) are briefly described in the sections
that follow, along with standard hand clapping patterns. As you undoubtedly
already know, flamenco rhythms often consist of 12, 4, or 3 beats. One Compás*,
the name for the rhythmic units, contains 12, 4, or 3 beats. Let's start with the
majority of flamenco styles (Palos), which contain 12 beats. Soleá, Alegra, and
Bulera are a few palos having 12 beats.
Soleá
The 3, 6, 8, 10, and 12 are typically the strongest beats in 12-beat combinations.
Usually, the tempo terminates at the number 10. (e.g. when there is a break, also
called corte, in the music).
Keep in mind, though, that the beat should be played at the same speed and is
the exact same as before. The sole variation is that two notes (A) or four notes (V)
are played instead of one (B). Pronouncing the complete notes (the bold x's) will
aid when playing or dancing these patterns.
Alegría
Alegría is another rhythm with a Compás of 12 beats.
Bulería
The rhythmically most challenging, yet thrilling, style is bulera. Bulera is
frequently used as an example of a 12-beat style in instruction, which is
frequently correct.
Transition Pattern
Estribillo transition between the coplas, two to four sets of twelve-count phrases
are performed to estribillo music (verses). Dancers are able to enter or leave the
stage during these transitions.
