WORSHIPPING GOD TRUTHFULLY

I think most Christians would agree that attending Sunday worship service, listening to Christian music,
studying the Bible are some of our ‘known’ avenues to worship God. We tend to associate the word
“worship” with these things.

Yet, worshipping God truthfully is way more than these things. Once the lights in our Church have
turned off, the music starts to fade out, that is where truthful worship is put to test. Worshipping God
does not end in attending our Sunday Service or regular bible study sessions alone; does not end in
listening to Christian songs alone; and studying the Bible alone.

The Bible reminds us with the kind of worship God is seeking from us. Jesus tells us in John 4:24 that,
“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” We worship God by
knowing Him and acknowledging His presence, not only in our mind, but also in our heart— these two
should go together.

There are times when we can recite facts about God and memorize Bible verses, but forget to praise and
honor God for all the great things He has done for us.

We are also taught in Romans 12: 1-2 what truthful worship is:

“Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy
and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of
God.”

Three things are clear in this verse, to worship God truthfully:

1. We must praise Him for everything He has given us. Although we do not deserve His love, peace
and strength, we enjoy them freely.
2. We must do things that are pleasing to God. Who we are as Christians and how we treat others
should be an extension of what we learn from Him.
3. We must live according to His will because God’s wisdom is far greater than ours.

Truthful worship is one that requires a lifetime commitment and flows from our devotion to God. Let us
not worshipping God truthfully!
