The Activity
• Before you begin the activity with your child, cut the rectangle out of the shark’s mouth and laminate
the shark. Cut the window out of the laminated sheet to make the front of your post box. Attach the
shark to a box and cut a window in the box to make a post box. You may also wish to laminate the
Posting Fish too.
• Allow time for your child to explore the activity. Your child will love to feed the shark!
• Add the dice to the activity. Ask your child to roll the dice. Help them to find out the number they
have rolled. Show your child that we count the face of the dice that is on the top of the dice. Count
the dots together, pointing to each dot as you say the next number. Show your child that once each
dot has been counted once, you finish counting and that this is the total number of dots on the face
of the dice.
• Challenge your child to count out this number of fish.
• Feed the fish to Friendly Shark.
• Repeat until all the fish have been posted, then take the fish out of the box and start again!

This activity can also be extended to include addition.

• Challenge your child to add 1 to the number rolled on the dice and then count and post this number
of fish.
• Introduce a second dice to the game and challenge your child to find the total number rolled, then
count and post this number of fish.
