PAYMENTS UNDER GST


SUMMARY

A variety of payments need to be made by the assessee under GST. Mainly these are – Tax,
Interest, Penalty, Fee, and other payments.

While the tax due can be paid by cash or through utilization of input tax credit; interest,
penalty, fee and other payments have to be made by cash only. Payment by cash means by
electronic mode, using internet banking or by using debit/credit cards or by way of NEFT or
RTGS.

The payment shall be credited to the electronic cash ledger of the person.

A unique identification number is generated in the common portal for each debit or credit to
the electronic cash or credit ledger. That unique identification number is to be indicated for the
entry in the electronic liability register.

Any person or a person on his behalf shall generate a challan on the common portal and enter
the details of the amount to be deposited by him towards tax, interest etc., The challan
generated will be valid for fifteen days. The deposits shall be made through the modes cited
above.

Over the counter payment can be made through authorized banks for deposits up to Rs. 10,000
per challan per tax period by cash, cheque or demand draft.

For making payment of tax etc., the commission of bank, if any, is to be borne by the person
making payment.
