Question One: While the synoptic gospels offer the reader many points of similarities and reinforcing
themes in their accounts of the life of Jesus, each also has identifiable peculiarities that suggest the
evangelist is writing to a specific community. Boxall makes this observation: “The picture of Jesus in
Moses’ clothing highlights the wider feature of Matthew’s story: the emphasis upon Jesus’ Jewish
credentials.” Ian Boxall, chapter 5 (The First Three Gospels, Introducing the Synoptic Gospels.”
Critically assess the above statements, making sure to give sound justifications for your response.

Question Two: In Acts 4:32-35 the reader gets an insight into the life of the early church as a
community led peacefully under the authority of the Apostles. Compare this to the message to the
church in Smyrna, Revelation 2:8-11. Examine to what extent these two ‘depictions’ of Church is
actually on display in the Book of the Acts of the Apostles. Which one gives a more reliable
picture of the early Church as seen throughout the twenty eight (28) chapters of Acts?
